I just received a D in my pre cal class for senior year (first semester). I’ve already counted myself out for any UC schools & was wondering if CSUs would be the same? I applied to CSULB, CSUF, CSULA & CPP. My cumulative GPA is 3.21 & have never had any grades lower than a C until now. What are my chances of getting in? And is AP Econ required to graduate? Please helpppp!!!
If Pre-Calc is a required a-g course to meet the CSU requirements, then your chance for rescind is high. Have you been accepted at any schools yet? First, contact your GC and have them notify the schools to see if you can work out a solution. Many schools will try and work with you. Second, come up with a plan with your teacher to try and raise the grade with extra assignments/ extra credit.
At my son’s HS, Econ is a graduation requirement but it doesn’t have to be AP. You can drop down to a non-Ap class to help lighten the load. Be proactive and do not wait until the schools rescind you byto having a solution in mind.
Please do not count yourself out of UC’s! Make them count you out, if that is what happens. If this is an isolated grade, they may review your file and accept you.
Of course you still have a good chance at CSUs!
You need to inform all of the schools where you are accepted. You need to decide what to do about the ‘D’. If you need the class, now is the time to sign up at your local community college for the evening class! If you don’t need the class, perhaps choose something more fun for second semester? In either case, I would drop your HS pre-calc (the CC course will cover a full year in one semester).
And, don’t panic, but do think this through.
If you prefer UC and do not get in, you will not likely be able to transfer from CSU. Far better to go to community college with a solid 2-year plan to transfer to a UC. Then work the plan diligently. UC has a stated and policy-driven preference to accept transfer students from California Community Colleges.
I’ve only gotten into CSULA so far. I’m really scared about not getting into a college & have done really well up until this year & I’m super scared that it’s going to cost me. I would prefer to go to a cal state, but I am still waiting for other acceptance letters.
Good advice above - be proactive. Contact the schools and tell them about your one - time grade.
