I was expelled my junior year for drugs is there any colleges that would accept me other than community colleges?
Depending on how severe/if any charges were preferred you may be able to get into a local four year college. Did you finish HS or take the GED? Any other issues since junior year?
I’m going to do homeschool until I finish highschool and no other issues junior year, I’ve had a few other minor incecidents such as texting in class freshman and sophomore year
There is nothing wrong with homeschool; however, I think that being homeschooled after being expelled makes you look like trouble. I suggest trying to get back into the mainstream and doing really well, as in impress your teachers so much that they would be more than happy to write a great letter of recommendation. We have charter schools in my area for kids who messed up (and got caught ). I think even that kind of school would be better than homeschool at this point. You want to show that you can play by the rules. Also, you can always try writing a heartfelt letter of apology to the board of education and ask for another chance.
Was this an expulsion from private or public school? If private, was it an actual expulsion or a withdrawal? My son had friends who were compelled to withdraw, in the face of certain expulsion. They got into college, albeit not necessarily the ones they would have liked. Some were seniors, who had to pursue GEDs or arrange for credits via local high schools. Were there any criminal charges involved? There is no way that this won’t have a significant impact on your college prospects, but there are varying shades of gray. Colleges will not treat an expulsion from a boarding school quite the same way they would a public high school, on the understanding that circumstances are different: if your parents catch you drinking or smoking pot, it will not appear on your transcript, whereas it will if your dorm parent at school catches you. On the other hand, kids who are expelled from public schools probably brought stuff to school with them. You have the right to see an unsealed copy of your transcript, which will show how your expulsion appears. If you have strong enough grades and scores for admissions offices to consider your application, they will probably call your old school for any information the school can legally disclose. In short: yes, you do have a chance of admission to a four-year college, but you probably need to cast a pretty wide net. Will you need financial aid? That can be a big problem if you have a drug-related criminal record (although there is a strong, broad-based movement for reforming some of the laws).
I go to public school and I got charged with misdemeanor
krgr97 - That’s a big problem. It might not be insurmountable, but your options are limited. I know that there are major efforts underway to change the laws regarding subsidized loans and scholarships for students with drug convictions, but you will need to investigate what the current policies are regarding your offense. Our drug laws discriminate against low-income Americans, overwhelmingly. It’s grossly unjust, in my opinion, but that’s the current situation you’re up again. If your family can afford to pay full tuition, your options might be greater.
