Can I get into a CSU with one D in pre-calc in first semester of junior year?

The first semester of the class I got a B in it, but come second semester, I ended up with a D in it. Instead of retaking it senior year, I’m taking AP stats. If you would like to hear my side of story, we had a different teacher first semester because our second semester teacher was on maternity leave…

If I pass both semesters with at least a C in AP stats, am I still able to apply and be competitive, say at CSUEB?
I currently have a 3.68 GPA and 3.5 unweighted.
I have yet to take the ACT, but I scored high twenties to low thirties on numerous practice ones.

Since you got a D 2nd semester in Pre-Calc, then you did not pass the class and it will not qualify for the (c) Math requirement for your a-g course work. It will also be included in your CSU GPA calculation unless you retake this summer prior to the CSU application.

AP stats will not validate the D (taking a higher level Math can validate a D or F in the lower Math). To validate your D you need to take either Math Analysis IV or Calculus.

CSU East Bay is not an impacted CSU campus so you should be OK if you have 3 years of Math which includes Algebra/Algebra II and Geometry. For some of the other more competitive campuses it may be an issue so make sure you apply to several CSU’s so you have options.
