Can I get into a CSU with only 2 years of math in high school?

I passed geometry as a freshman and algebra 2 as a sophomore but failed a semester of pre-caculus as a junior and did not retake the class. I am taking AP statistics this year and I might fail. Would I still be eligible for CSU if i fail both Pre Calc and Stats in my junior and senior year?

  1. You need up to Algebra2 to qualify for the CSU’s, so you are fine.
  2. If you did not retake the failed Pre-Calc semester, you “F” grade will be on your transcript and calculated into your CSU GPA.
  3. I am assuming you are a Senior and taking AP Stats? If so, even if you get into a CSU but get an “F” in your AP Stats class, the CSU’s can rescind your acceptance. You need a C or higher in any a-g courses even if you have fulfilled the minimum Math requirement. I would find a tutor, try for extra credit or possibly consider withdrawing from the class.

Yes, geometry and algebra 2 will be sufficient to meet the minimum math requirements. CSUs require algebra 1, geometry, and algebra 2, but passing algebra 2 validates algebra 1.

The failing grade in junior year will still count toward your GPA. A failing grade in senior year may result in your admission being rescinded.
