Can I get into a good college with a few high B's on my transcript?

I just got my report card for my sophomore year, and I ended up with a few high 80s in some of my harder classes. Last year I got straight A’s, and for most of my classes this year I did too. But some of my classes (Algebra 2/Trig, AP World History, English 10 Honors, French Honors) I didn’t do so well. I didn’t get lower than an 88 in anything, in fact other than trig I got an 89 in all of those classes. But there’s a huge difference between and 88/89 and a 90 and I feel like it is going to reflect badly on me as a student when I apply in a few years.

I don’t plan on applying for great colleges like Harvard or Princeton, but I was shooting for something more along the lines of NYU (I’m doing a precollege program there this summer) or Villanova. I’m also going to be an IB Diploma candidate in my junior year and I think I’ll probably do good in those classes. I just had a lot going on in my life this year and I know it’s not an excuse but I was pretty distracted these past six months.

Sorry for the long block of text but I’m starting to panic!!! Am I going to be fine?

My son had some Bs on his HS transcript and he is a student at Columbia. When a good friend’s daughter got into Harvard, she told me the girl did not have all A grades.

Moral of the story: Grades are not everything, at least not to the extent that some Bs make it impossible to get into a very selective school.

Both of those students were curious intellectually and had real passions they developed. Teachers could talk about that in their letters of recommendation. They wrote interesting essays that conveyed what qualities they would bring to their campus communities. And yes, they had strong test scores and grades, but not absolutely all As.

I honestly don’t think a few Bs are gunna effect your transcript. But colleges do love seeing you challenge yourself!

You are fine. Don’t let this distract you.

As and Bs are both good grades. C’s are when you start getting into risky territory. NYU IS GREAT SCHOOL. Just because its not ivy doesn’t mean it’s not excellent. They have just as many, if not more, applicants than ivy league schools. The only difference is NYU accepts about 15,000 applicants and ivy league schools only accept about 3,000.

If you get rejected from a college, it will most likely not be because of a few high Bs.

Absolutely. If a few B’s took you out of the running for college, then most kids would be so screwed, including me.
Does your school give B+'s (like are there +'s and -'s on the transcript?)
