can i get into a good uc?

<p>Hi, i go to San Marino High School (a supposedly top rated high school in southern california) I'm really worried about applying to UCs because my gpa isnt high. Do u think i'd be able to get into UC Riverside with these stats?</p>

<p>3.00 UW gpa
i have taken 0 APs and my school only offers 8 aps.
2040 SAT1 (660 math, 700 writing, 680 verbal)
SAT2s, 680 SAT Math2c, 650 Chinese</p>

<p>ECs,
Eagle rank boy scout
11th grade Cross Country
9-10th Swim
9-10th Water Polo
9-11 marching band
9-12 concert band (french horn)
Level 9 Piano
90 Service hours</p>

<p>from 1st Sem Sophomore to 2nd Sem Junior my gpa goes like this:
2.8 -> 2.97 -> 2.92 -> 3.0
my freshmen was like a 2.4
currently i'm getting straight b's.</p>

<p>for my college essay i'm going to focus in on my dad and his discovery of cancer just before the beggining of junior year.</p>

<p>i was also wondering how well my chances were at:

ucsc
ucsb
cal poly pamona
ucm</p>

<p>what the heck....flopsy told me uci/ucsb were slight reaches for me....4.0 gpa, 1870 sat, 760 700 sat2. no offense but i think he is being generous. you might have a chance of riverside and santa cruz. you're in at merced.</p>

<p>well flopsy, i think, has a real good sense of these things. Acceptance into UCs depend heavily on GPA and then SAT. flopsy gave me his 2cents on my stats too.</p>

<p>As per your essay: make sure it's mainly about you, not your dad. That's what essays are for.</p>
