I really don’t like physics, but I want to major in Biology. It would be more of an ecology/marine biology tilt however. Do I still need to take some sort of physics class?
Personally, I don’t think you should even graduate high school without taking physics, or at least some rudimentary physical science class.
Biology majors generally need to take physics in college. It will be more difficult if you have not had physics in high school to get an introduction to the subject. You probably do not want your first physics course to be the one required for your major in college which is shared by grade-grubbing pre-meds competing for the top grades in the grading curve.
Why do you want to avoid physics in high school?
Most top tier colleges want to see that applicants have taken bio, chem, and physics in HS. If you plan to major in a STEM area in college I’d definitely take HS physics.
I couldn’t agree more with everyone above. A college physics class will be the equivalent of AP physics. Do you really want to do that without high school physics under your belt? If you were planning to major in French, I would say that it’s not a great idea to miss out on this fundamental bit of education, but for someone who is planning a STEM major, I think it’d be a huge mistake – whether you’re admitted to 'top" school or not.
