Can I get into a UC?

I’m a junior in high school & I guess I’m “average”. My top 2 schools are UCI & UCSB. I heard they were hard to get into… I have a 3.0 UC gpa. I’m gonna bring it up this summer by doing concurrent enrollment. I did the calculations and I THINK I’ll have a 3.30 or 40 something by the beginning of senior year. I guess it’ll go up during my senior year too. I don’t know.
I haven’t taken the SAT yet. I’m studying for them and I’ll take them in May.
My EC’s are okay I guess…?
I’m a volunteer at an elementary school and read to/tutor kids.
I’m a Tobacco Educator at my school.
I volunteered at a summer camp as a camp counselor and gained 300+ hours of community service.
I know the personal statement plays a big role in getting in too.

I really don’t know if I’ll make it to a UC in general. If I dont, I guess I’ll apply to a CSU. I’m kinda paranoid… haha.

Average UC GPA for UCI and UCSB is 4.0+. SAT/ACT score, EC’s and essays will all contribute to your chances however, GPA is a large factor. Your best chances for the UC’s would be UCR/UCM and UCSC based on your current GPA. There are some excellent Cal States that you should consider which are on par or exceed some of the UC’s in academics. Once you have all your Stats, please repost and the many CC posters can give some direction on which schools would be good matches.

I assume that you are a California resident.

Look over the formula that UC admissions use to determine if you will be admitted to at least one UC.

There are two metrics that matter:

and

You’ll need your SAT score and your junior year grades. Make a conservative guess for both, based perhaps on your SAT scores on a recent timed practice test. Best is not to include your planned summer courses. I don’t know the UC rules regarding such courses. They may not count in your GPA computation.
