I know my EC's are weak.

University of Michigan has an excellent Engineering program and they’ll probably look at you with a holistic approac.

I’m jealous of your SAT score. Your ECs are not that bad. Weak, but okay. Milk that documentary. Haha.

I think you can get into U of Michigan, like the previous poster said.

Since you are not from Michigan, UMich is likely a reach for you. Your GPA is below their CoE admission average of 3.9. Your SAT is within the mid 50 but below admission average for CoE. Note that the admission rate for CoE was 20% in 2014. OOS applicants will have an even lower admission rate.
Purdue would be a good match for you though.

You still have time to improve your EC’s and GPA. Engineering schools tend to look at Math more strongly than other subjects so you may want to take the SAT again to improve that math score.

BTW don’t write water boy haha just say team manager.

bump

Your ECs are quality. They are better than most of the Chance Me posts I’ve seen. You stand a good chance at most colleges. Your race/ethnicity is pretty competitive in engineering, though, so be wary of school quotas. UMichigan is a good match.

Yeah agree don’t say waterboy… Makes it a lot worse.

bump

You live in California, so you will probably apply to the UCs. However, your chances at the UCs are not very good because your 10-11th grade GPA is too low. You may only be accepted by UC Santa Cruz, UC Riverside, and UC Merced.

I agree that UCs would be the best options for OP, but OP should calculate the UC GPA. I think mid level UCs would be good matches and low match to safety for lower UCs.

u mich should be a high match. ucla’s is reputable as well and you have a chance. Purdue should be your safety. MIT and Caltech your reaches. and Fu as well

Have you looked into Cornell Engineering? It’s very good

I think Purdue would be easy for you and their engineering program is highly reputed, especially aerospace. I suggest applying to UMich and UIUC. You’ll have a good chance if you either push your GPA up or your SAT up to a 2200. One of the two. Try improving your GPA. A 2130 is pretty good in my opinion. Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1681835-chance-me.html#latest

OP do need to push up both GPA and SAT for a better chance at UMich as both are below admission average right now. With a current admission rate of 20% for UMich CoE, it would be a reach for most students particularly from oos.

GPA seems a bit on the low side esp since UC’s do not consider freshman grades. An increase in SAT score would help too. In-state is good.

Cali school are obviously solid in engineering. In addition, I’d try Illinois (UIUC), Michigan, and UT Austin. Also, Northwestern University is really good for industrial engineering. You’re SAT score kicks a**, EC’s are not bad, but not very relevant to engineering, so it’s somewhat a toss up. Grades are good, too. Best of luck and I hope everything works out!
If anyone has time, chance me for UPenn/Stanford Engineering!

Virginia tech and purdue are great engineering schools and i would say you have a great chance.
