I'm probably going to retake my SAT and ACT but i can't guarantee the scores will go up..

So what do you guys think about my chance of getting into any of the colleges

Do you need financial aid? Seeing that you’re an international applicant, the answer to that question is instrumental to estimating your chances, especially given the current economic climate.

Seeing that you go to an international school and are applying to UCB, I’ll chance you making the assumption that you’re not applying for FA. Correct me if my assumption is wrong.

Brown - mid reach
Berkley - mid reach (learn how to spell it by the way)
Columbia - high reach
Cornell - low reach
Duke - low reach
NorthWestern - low reach
UPenn - mid reach (if wharton, high reach)
Stanford - high reach
Yale - high reach

You seriously need safeties. Your profile is strong to the extent that there is nothing ‘flawed’ with it but there’s nothing that works in the reverse direction either. These schools are looking for students who stand out and unless I’m missing something in your profile, I don’t see any distinguishing aspects in your app. As such, do still try for these schools if you wish but

A. be realistic and choose some matches/safeties
B. write excellent essays and get great recs if you want to stand a shot at these schools

yeah, i don’t need financial aid so your guess was correct
and yeah i have my safeties and target but I’m trying to figure out where I should apply for my reach schools

And as for the hook…

Well I have 4 recs and they are mostly emphasizing my leadership skills, my affable nature, passion, and critical thinking? do you think that helps for anything?

I don’t know what I should write for my essay though…

Let me give you some advice. 4 recs aren’t necessarily better than the requisite two.

This is pretty much what’s to be expected from a rec. But please do not send in four unless the additional two will supply valuable insights about you that other parts of your application will not be able to supply. But recs are never hooks unless all your recommenders can attest that you cured cancer of something of similar gravity.

Actually 1 of them is the requisite counselor rec and the other 3 are from my other teachers, but its because of the course as I don’t know if I want to send English + Business or English + Computer Science.

Would it be possible to give me some examples of good hooks? I don’t know what aspect would be considered “Special”

Thanks

bump bump bump

hooks are stuff that help you that you didn’t earn. URM is a hook, but not 2400 SAT. Legacy is a hook but not valedictorian. Get it?

ok i get it more now… hmm bt wat do you think of my chances to those colleges?

Nice job fixing the spelling for him… rude.

your test scores really aren’t impressive for those schools. And being an international really hurts. I would say that you have probably about 40% chance of getting into at least one of them

Hmmm do you guys have any suggestion for me to improve my chances?

Your best shot is to probably study hard for and retake the SATs in October or November. Frankly, your ECs are all pretty good. If there was some opportunity to become involved in a science fair, that might help. Good luck!

bumpity bump bump

bump bump bump?
