Can I get into Boston University ED?

Hi guys, I was hoping you could give me your opinion on if you think I could get into BU early decision. I’m applying as a journalism major. My gpa is a 3.53/3.64 and my sat is 1970/2400. My sat math score was really low, 560, while reading and writing were 720 and 690.
I know my stats are below average, but i’m hoping that my other activities can make up for it. I’ve done journalism for 4 years and held 4 different editor positions. I was also an editor for 1 year for yearbook. I hold a leadership position for my schools literary magazine, and i’m a founding member of it. I volunteer for esl helpers and the boys and girls clubs as a tutor.
I haven’t taken a ton of aps before this year, just ap environmental science, honors english, and advanced photography in my junior year. I was also given an underclassmen award in photography by my school.
Do you think they would accept me? I know i’ll find out in a month or so but i’m just really nervous.
Thank you!

I applied ED for BU 2021 and I’ve been told it was a high match/low reach for me. Our gpas are roughly the same and your SAT score is higher than mine which was a 1340 new. I think BU is probably a bit of a reach but it’s certainly worth a shot! And ED will probably help you as well.

@woshigusta our sat scores are the same! mine translates to a 1340. good luck to you!! what school did you apply to?

Thanks! I did CAS. I thought a 1340 new translated to a 1880 on the SAT?

i’ve seen different charts. one says a 1970 old translates to a 1390 new, another says it translates to a 1320 new. i’m not sure which it is @woshigusta

Dang! That’s complicated. Well anyway, I hope it works out for you!

I think that the fact you are applying ED will work in your favor, and also the fact that your ECs align with your intended major shows true interest. If you have a strong essay I think you will be accepted, or deferred. Your scores are a bit low but still within the range. Good luck!

@shannon14 thank you!!

bump

Did you click on the CGS option? Your SAT’s are fine and although your GPA is below average, it really depends more on what classes you took because all schools grade students differently. As it is, I think it is a match for you but if you chose the CGS option, you should have a good chance of being accepted

@redsox99 thanks for commenting!!! i didn’t click cgs but i’m kind of regretting it now. i just wanted to start with my major right away

Yeah I feel you and no problem! But honestly I still think you should be fine, especially since you applied early decision and your stats are qualified enough to get into BU. I hope we both get in!!!

@redsox99 i hope we do too!! i looked at your stats and your gpa is super good so i think you’ll get in. i noticed a few days ago that i made a typo on my app so i’m kinda stressed haha

Ugh

@mynamehadley i think your entire application is strong otherwise so your sat score shouldn’t make or break you. i can’t say for sure but i think it’s likely you’ll get in. what major did you apply for?

I didnt apply for a specific major, I went in undecided for the communication school. But thank u so much that helped calm me down. One more week of this agony @plshelpme11

@mynamehadley ugh i know i’m so stressed. do you think i could get in? be brutally honest pls haha

Yes omg your application seems stronger than mine!! You have a passion and have been pursing it your whole hs career so they will appreciate that. I am just nervous because it is the only school I want to go to and ill be broken if I dont get in :frowning: @plshelpme11

Idk if its where im from but based on the people i know that got into bu your scores are not low!! theyre only slightly below average which means a good amount of the people accepted had scores below the average too, and from what ive seen BU favors essays/activites/recommendations over scores especially with ED
