Can I get into Brown? Is it a long shot?

Okay, so I’m a junior/senior in high school (year early grad) and my friends keep pressuring me to apply to at least one ivy league…I want to, but I’m afraid I’ll get rejected (not even waitlisted)… :/

GPA: 3.45 UW, 4.13 W (top 25%)
I took the MOST rigorous curriculum at my school.
I attend a career-technical school/school of choice and I’m in a pre-med/EMT program.
I’m currently in my last year of high school (feels weird saying senior) and have taken 8 AP and dual credit courses (not including my pre-med curriculum)

SAT Molecular Bio: 700

ACT: 29 E, 28 R, 24 M, 24 S…26 Composite…This was my first time taking it in October. I had very bad time management and had to guess on alot of questions…I’m retaking it in December and shooting for a 30+. And on the practice test I scored highest on math and science. Kinda weird.

EC’s:

30+ internship hours in the MICU and NICU
40 hours volunteering with Habitat for Humanity
30 hours volunteering with Nursing Home
Lifeguard for two years
HOSA
Teen Community Emergecy Response Team
National Spanish Honors Society
Attend Quarksnet seminars at Rice University
CPR/AED Instructor
People to People Student Ambassador

Misc:
African-American male…can’t think of anything else lol…my application essay is about a patient on an Oncology clinical rotation…my friends said it was really good.

Also, not just brown…what ivy universities would I have a good shot at?

Cappex said I had a 50/50 shot at Johns Hopkins, but I don’t think that is right.

And can you give chances using %?

Thanks!

No, we cannot chance you with a %. However, grades are THE MOST important thing at Brown and all of the other Ivies. Your grades are extremely sub-par. Generally, to have a decent chance of acceptance you should be in the top 10% of your class and you are only in the top 25%.

I wouldn’t apply if you are worrying about rejection; You probably will get rejected for not being in top 10% of class. I WOULD apply if you think you will regret not applying (Why I’m applying to Stanford). I’m also graduating early, but that usually doesn’t help. Being African American DOES help, but I don’t think it helps enough to qualify your 3.45 GPA. Good Luck!

You still have a shot, especially with moving essays. Sure, scores, GPA, and rank could might be working against you, but with a higher score, who knows what will happen. That 50/50 shot @ JHU seems slightly high, but (echoing Polyosophy) if you do not regret applying, then go ahead and apply. Don’t fear rejection! Good luck :)

Thanks everyone! I will probably be applying to Rice University as my long shot…Trinity University as my middle-school and St. Edwards or Texas Tech (possible A&M) as back-ups.
