Hello,
Im an international applicant and I chose to apply to one only safety: Boston University.
I am ranked first in my class (over 88 students). My school doesn't follow the GPA system.
sat: 2090
I have many extracurricular activities and speak 3 languages fluently (arabic french english) and i am learning mandarin.
My father and uncle are BU alumnus and my brother is currently studying there.
I know I am probably going to get in, but do u think I should apply to another safety, just in case ?
thanks

No, its not 100%. 2090 is just around their SAT avg which which makes it a high match as of this point. I think you’ll be fine, but its not 100%.

It isn’t really a safety for you. It’s a match, your SAT is average for the school, but you have a strong rest of your application. I would think you’d get in, but it’s not certain. Do you require financial aid?

I’m pretty sure that @Prodigee and @Alden97 are confusing Boston University with Boston College. Your SAT is NOT average, it is far above. You’re well in the 75 percentile of admitted students. Like previously stated, its not 100%, but a good match. I’m not sure I’d consider it a safety, but it’s pretty close.

nope.

no i don’t @Alden97 but does it make a difference? And , being an international student, don’t they expect lower sat scores then the american average?
Thanks

Keep in mind the average is for the admitted kids, a lot of kids ( sadly because I am 2100 ish and find BU amazing ) use BU as their safety. I am an international and my school has had over 200 apps to BU over 6 years. The median accepted SAT , not average as that takes into account the safety peeps, is around 1950. 2090 is significantly above that but not high enough to be a safety. I would consider BU anywhere from a low to mid match; you would have to give us more information to actually pinpoint

Thanks @kinaralah that was really helpful! But the thing is that my brother got into BU 2 years ago with way lower grades than mine and had an sat score of about 1850.
I think that the alumnus helped him
More about me: I am doing the french baccalaureate and have an average of 17.5/20 (i don’t know if that helps).
I am sure that my essays are topnotch
Some of my extracurricular activities: member of the national fencing team, sailer for 7 years (won many regattas)
Even though we’re not very encouraged to do community service in my school, I’ve helped underprivileged kids for numerous hours, and helped renovate a building after a blast in my neighbourhood.
ANd i took the sat subject tests (math 2 and physics). Even though they are not asked required in BU, will it help if I submit them anyway?
And where do you suggest I should apply as a rather safe choice on the east coast (engineering) ?

What did you get on the SAT2s?

results get out in 5 days but I am confident that I will get around 730 in both math and physics. I am doing them again in december anyway, with french reading in which I am sure I’ll get 800 @theanaconda

If you exceed 700 in both subject tests they definitely will help and I doubt it was alumnus that got an 1850 kid into BU, he probably did something right but yea I would assume BU is probably a low match for you.
