Can I get into Cal Poly SLO with a 3.4 GPA?

Well I’m currently a junior and I’m looking into SLO as one of my top choices, but it seems really really hard to get into. At highest, by the end of the year I can get my gpa to be a 3.4 (not good I know) because of a failing grade in Pre-Calculus (planning to repeat in the summer). Say my SAT scores were around 1800-2000 and I was planning to be a liberal studies major. Would I still stand a chance? And should I take the ACT as well?

I’ve also taken 4 ACC courses, 1 Honors course and by senior year I would have taken 4 AP courses
English 1 ACC, English 2 ACC, Biology ACC, World history ACC, Honors Chemistry, AP Language&Comp, AP Biology, AP Government, and AP Econ.

It all depends on the major you apply too, it seems like a long shot if you want to get in for engineering. I’m not sure about your chances in the majors.

Hire a tutor for the SAT and take the ACT as that is the preferred test for Cal Poly (as stated on their website). However they take both. I say go for it and you just might get your wish. Blow away the tests and you’ve gotta shot.

As Jakotatio mentioned, you need to state your major of interest. Cal Poly accepts by colleges/majors.

Generally, a 3.4 GPA is way below the averages of all the colleges within Cal Poly (even the least competitive one, Agriculture). Therefore, you really need to destroy the SAT/ACT in order to have a realistic chance at all.

To give some perspective, I have a 4.1 GPA and a 29 on the ACT, and I was deferred to regular decision.

What major jakotatio? From what I you said I gathered that it is probably in the Engineering, but which type specifically? Just curious =).

Architectural Engineering, probably one of the harder majors to get into…

To add even more perspective:
I got accepted with the same ACT as jakotatio, (29) but a much worse GPA (3.65). However, my major of choice was statistics.

Arch Engineering is definitely one of the harder majors to get into.
I got into Civil with 4.18 and 1440 SAT(CR & M).
Good luck in regular!!!

Thanks, my scores are slightly above the average for the CAED as of last year, obviously not enough to get me in ED, but hopefully enough for RD. I’ll just have to wait and see. Good luck to you tushie, I hope we helped.
