I am going to be a senior in the fall and plan on applying early action. My GPA is currently around 3.5 and I just got my SAT scores back. On the SAT I scored a 1700 total or Reading: 600, Math: 550 and writing: 550. I live in the state of Kansas (Dont know if that matters) and I go to a private Jewish high school. My essay is going to be very good and it will talk about how I took a risk in high school by coming out of the closet during my junior year (I dont know if they like those type of essays). Also, for my extra curriculars I will have 4 years of varsity soccer and 3 years of varsity basketball. I also have had 2 jobs and a fair amount of community service. Do you think I will be able to get into Chapman??? Why or why not?? Chance me please!

My son had similar stats and was deferred in EA until 1st semester senior grades were in. He was accepted after those came in. Being from Kansas I think would be helpful, and the sports are good, especially if you may play. I don’t think your coming out essay is that unique out here in California. Just make sure it has something that makes your story different from others- maybe Kansas makes it unique, I don’t know. Good luck!

Thanks that helps a lot. Maybe I will write about something else for my essay.

It’s important to write about something personal and powerful. It doesn’t matter if you are not the first kids whose ever come out in high school. If this was a pivotal moment in your life, embrace your intuition.

If you think you can improve your test score, think about retaking them. Better SAT scores can pay off in merit aid.

Good luck to you.

I think the Kansas thing really helps you out. You definitely have a chance.
