Can I get into Claremont McKenna?

Do I have a chance of getting in?

Scores:
Act Composite- 30 (first try will take again)
Essay - 10
GPA - 4.15 W (Grades 10-12), 4.03 W (Grades 9-12), 3.72 UW (Grades 9-12)

Freshman year there were no Honors/AP classes available. Sophomore year I took the only two Honors/AP classes available and Junior year I am taking four. I expect to take AP Microeconomics, AP Gov, AP Stats, and Honors Spanish, AP Language, and Honors Physics for Senior year. Math has always been a a challenge for me to get As in and I get consistent Bs in those classes. All of the other subjects I get As, so I'm not sure how much a B in math would affect my chances of getting into a business school.

APs(so far): AP Euro - A, AP Psych - A, AP US History - A, AP Environmental Science - A, AP Lang - B
Honors/ Advanced - Honors Chemistry -B, Adv English 10 -A

Got a 3 on the AP Euro test :( . I probably wont record that score when applying to colleges. The rest of the AP tests I will be taking this spring.

Extracurriculars:

Played Soccer for 10 years and played for the highschool JV team.
Volunteer at my local museum where I give tours and run the cash register and help young students on schools projects (practice my public speaking skills as well as money handling skills)
In the process of starting a school "Investment Club"
Have been actively participating in the stock market for over a year and have learned a lot
Going to take a summer Economics course at a local JC

I realize I am lacking in this area in number of activities, but I think it's important that the activities I do spend time on are relevant to my interests and major. Hopefully this focus of activities is looked upon in the same light as the applicants with many more, but diverse, activities

Clubs/Awards:

Young Republican Club
California Scholarship Federation
National Honors Society
Multiple Renaissance Awards throughout the school year for academic achievement
Teacher-Given Award for Hard Work and Effort (forget the name of it)
Investment Club (Founder)

I just got into CMC and I think your stuff is great and I guess if you get around 32-34 the next time you have a good chance of getting in. Keep in mind that CMC gives a lot of importance to extra curriculars but giving time to a few things you like is more impo than having a huge list of credentials. Plus it’s great that your extras are related to Econ. That’ll help:)
Maths is important for business school but a good ACT score and A’s in other subjects should make up for that. Good luck!

Thanks Redstuff. Hopefully, I will improve my ACT score to 32+.

Any other opinions? I’m really nervous because of the extremely low acceptance rate.

wow 10 years of soccer! Could you get recruited? I’m not saying thats they only way you’ll get in, but it would help you so much if you could get in contact with the coach. And yes, your EC’s are focused on your intended major and while you may not have 1000 EC’s, they are a time-commitment (I’m assuming). Quality > Quantity. You have a solid shot. CMC’s not all about the grades/test scores. Write a kick-ass essay and best of luck!

Thanks

With around a 10% acceptance rate I’ll need all the luck I can get. :)

I think you have a really good shot. Small liberal arts colleges like CMC care a lot about ‘fit,’ they want to be able to picture you fit in at their school and be successful. Why do you want to go to CMC? In your essays you want to sound genuine and excited.Don’t tell the essay readers something they already know, eg. “I want to attend CMC because it has one of the top economics/finance department of any liberal arts college, and great internship opportunities.” Instead, show them why you think you’ll be a great fit at their school and what aspects of the school in particular is perfect for you, and why. Good luck! (:
