Hi, so I was accepted into EA LSA this past December and while I was very happy about it, I realized that a month after I applied for LSA, it would be more practical for me to go into Engineering.

I was wondering if I can still get into CoE somehow even though technically i'm in LSA right now, such as contacting some admissions person??

Early Thank you!!

You can transfer pretty easily once you get in. First year take the prereqs for engineering. You might be able to take some actual engineering classes depending on what you decide to major in, but don’t count on it. But after a year you should be able to transfer.

I was wondering about whether I could still switch schools right now though, because i’m still a senior in high school. I just don’t see wasting my first year in LSA as practical and i’d feel more secured if I could somehow get my application re-looked at for CoE.

No, you can’t. You can only apply to one school within UMich during each cycle (unless it’s Fine Arts), so the next time you’d be able to apply for Engineering would be for the Spring 2014 semester. You’ll have to stick it out in LSA for a year and then transfer. That first year won’t be a “waste” either, as most of the pre-requisites for engineering degrees can be taken while in LSA.

Unless you’re entering with all your prerequisites done (which happens but isn’t terribly common), you’re not really going to be wasting time. In that case though anyway, a lot of EECS classes happen to be open for undeclared students and credit for 280 & 215/314 can be applied to many non-EECS majors.

LSA tuition is also a lot cheaper so take advantage of that.
