Hi, I am a junior, and I have a 3.4 gpa out of 4 and I got a 1060 out of 1600 on my sat. 560 on math, and 500 on critical reading. I go to a highly regarded high school in upstate New York. Its in the top hundred public schools in the nation. Ive played varsity soccer since I was a freshman, and I play for a club soccer team that is ranked 65th in the nation. I don't do a ton of community service, I have around 80 or so hours. I am doing an internship over the summer, and I hope to have a great experience through that. I am in a community service club called Varsity Club. I am also in the Pre Med Club. I also was in the bookstore club which is a club that helps sell school apparel in return for community service hours. I have taken A.P. U.S. history, and I plan to take A.P. Bio next year. I am in regular regents classes besides that. When I grow up I want to become a doctor, and I hope that going to a good undergraduate college will help me get there. Can you guys help me out in telling me if I am unreasonable to think about getting into any of these colleges? Could you also tell me any colleges you think would be great for me that would put me into the best position to become a doctor?

Allegheny College
College of the Holy Cross
Washington and Jefferson College

Drexel University
Xavier University
Suny Buffalo
Suny Stony Brook
Suny Albany
Hofstra University

I hope you have enough information to make a comment.

I think Holy Cross will be a reach because they really focus on GPA and class rank and your GPA is not terribly high and I assume you are not in the top 10% of your class which is what they aim for.

Holy Cross, Rhodes, and Gettysburg are more of my reach schools. I’m really looking into xavier, allegheny, and washington and jefferson. Does anyone know if I would be a valid candidate for these schools? Also are there any colleges I should add to my list?

Thanks for the comment! I have heard of Muhlenburg, and I did check it out, I wasn’t overly impressed with the school, but maybe I didn’t look into it enough.

someone answered my question with this on yahoo answers, do you agree with the answer?

I go to school very close to holy cross and it seems like everyone always has that on their application lists. Although your scores are not in their range, the fact that you are from out of state will probably help you a lot. If time permits, I would definately retake your SAT and try to raise your GPA to at least a 3.5. It also seems like they accept more people who know the career/major they definitely want to pursue so make sure you make your pre-med interest clear.
Luck!:)

Because you go to a highly regarded school, maybe that’ll give your GPA a possible boost. I really feel like HC focuses a lot of their attention on the GPA, but they really do look at every aspect of your application. It wouldn’t hurt to apply. I didn’t expect myself to be accepted and it was a complete surprise as I didn’t do an interview and thought that would hurt me. (The interview is considered to be highly recommended for applicants).

What do you think would be a reasonable score on the sat that could get me into these colleges? I’m thinking I can raise my score to around 1100-1150, do you think that would be good enough? Also when should I do these interviews? Over the summer? next fall? Would applying early help my chances?

Thanks for your comments I really appreciate it!
