My friends have told me my academics are good but my EC are not is that true?
I agree with the other posters, your EC’s are essentially going to look the same among the other applicants. Since you’re a junior, there’s really not much to do to strengthen your EC’s. Find something that makes you stand apart from the other applicants. I’ll give you a story to tell you what I mean by this:
The Dartmouth admissions committee admitted a student not only because of his academics and EC’s, but his recommendations. One of them came from the school janitor. They found that the student took the time to learn each of the janitor’s names and clean up classrooms even when he wasn’t asked to. These are the people that the Ivies are looking for, and as a result, the admissions committee unanimously decided to accept him.
Now, what do you have to offer that makes to stand apart from the crowd? If you can find this and prove it to the admissions committee, you would probably have a better shot at getting in.
Also, even though you are qualified for the Ivy Leagues, don’t put all of your eggs into one basket. Apply to some other schools that’ll be easier to get in. You may not like this idea, but let’s say you don’t get into any of the schools you applied for, where do you go then? If you apply to the state schools, you’d probably be in for some nice scholarships.
I think the fact that you have been teaching others is really cool and you should play that up in your essay. Also 400 hours is a lot per year! Talk about that as well I think you have a very very good change and as others have said, you may want to try ED if Cornell is your top choice. Good luck!
