Can I get into Duke?

I'm applying to Duke U, and it's really the only school I want to go to.. so i'll list my credentials and if some people could do me a favor and let me know if you think i can get in. I'm applying to the school of engineering so keep that in mind with my math scores and whathaveyou.

Schedule: all of the hardest classes my school offers
(including AP Calculus, AP English, and Honors International Relations, Honors Spanish Four, Honors Physics I, etc.)

Extracurricular/Sports: Four years of Cross Country, Swimming, and Track, All-State in swimming Four years, and All-State in Track Three Years (although not quite first team yet) Captain of Swimming and Track

National Honors Society (volunteer stuff)

Math Team

Model UN

Information Technology Academy (which includes taking every tech/computer course the school offers, and takes all four years of high school to do, includes job shadowships and an internship next summer as well as relative field trips to businesses and such)

URI Sailing Club for 7 years

SK Sailing Team for 3 years

Work Experience: 1 minor summer job and the past two and a half years at a restaurant, at which i started as a busser and now cook and manage the place

Scores/Rank: 750 Math, 690 Critical reading, 670 Writing (11 on essay)
just took SAT IIs, and i expect a 800 on Math I and probably 750ish on Math II, and probably somewhere around a 700 on Spanish with Listening

Rank (this is what isn't that impressive) 16/320ish

GPA: 4.39 but our scale is weird

i think that's all the important stuff. let me know what you think.

Sounds good to me, seems like you have a pretty good shot in, but be wary, if you want to apply to engineering, make sure the Math IIC is close to an 800-don't even bother taking Math IC

Did you apply ED? That helps...

Hi - I need some more information to give you your chances accurately. What state are you from, what type of school (public/private), what ethnicity? Also, what types of letter grades do you have each year?

From what I have seen, I don't think your chances are any different from the overall acceptance rate, which is about 20%. Your chances are higher if you applied ED. Of course, this is a rough estimate since I don't have all of your information.

Hope this helps.

I'm from Rhode Island, Public School, White

Letter grades vary class to class... i always have As and A+s in math and science courses as well as my tech courses... the others maintain B+ and up or so.

I didn't apply early decision.. at the time i wasn't sure of where i wanted to go (and i'm past the deadline now of course) but in retrospect i probably should have.

I think it will be difficult, but you have a chance - probably near 20-25%.
Good luck.
