Can I get into Elon University?

Let me begin by saying that I am very interested in attending Elon with hopes of being accepted into their engineering program next spring. The dual degree engineering program and their reputation for strong academics have intrigued me to say the least. However, I still have some doubts about being accepted. My doubts begin with my age ( will be 24 upon enrollment) and wander into my educational background. I did very well in high school and played several sports along with other extracurricular activities. I applied and was accepted to UNCC for engineering after graduation in 2005. This was the only school that I applied to due to financial concerns. I am the first in a family of 11 to attend college. My father has been retired for eighteen years and my mother has not worked a full time job since the late 70's. Those conditions really put the finances for my education in jeopardy and helped persuade me to join an apprenticeship. I joined an apprenticeship with a globally known auto supplier. The program was 5 1/2 years in length and consisted of OJT time in addition to time spent in school. I currently am a CNC programmer/machinist that works with engineering to produce new tooling designs along with manufacturing prototypes. I joined this program to gain experience and work towards my life long goal of becoming an engineer. I am now at the point where the associate degrees I have earned are limiting my career goals and chances of future promotions. So now I look ahead to the future with that ever elusive engineering degree in sight. I'll list my stats including high school even though they probably will not even be considered in my case. I know that Elon would be a perfect fit for me and I hope that you guys can help me clear rather than confirm these dreaded doubts that I am having. Here are the stats:

So guys, what are my chances of getting into Elon as a transfer student? I am making a campus visit in the near future to find out more about their engineering program and their affiliate engineering schools. I also applied to UNCC again, but I am pretty sure that I will have no program getting in. Thanks in advance!

Afternoon bump.

You need to get a first hand review (by Elon) of how you will fit into the engineering program. It’s not just a matter of how good you did in HS or your previous college…

As you undoubtedly know…

“Elon’s a dual-degree engineering program, students earn two degrees: a bachelor’s degree in one of six concentrations from Elon and a bachelor’s degree in engineering from an engineering school. Students spend the first three years at Elon and about two more years at an engineering school in the program.”

So the question isn’t your age as much as can you transfer into any school with a 3 + 2 year program. I would think it would be very hard to be accepted and then only spend one year at Elon.

Thanks for your quick reply and input. Im sure it will be a reach and maybe not as practical gievn my situation. However, I am still set on trying to get in and maybe it could work out for me. Could you please tell me more about this review that you speak of? The depth of the 3+2 program fits my educational goals perfectly. Maybe I can hope for two years at elon and then transfer elsewhere.

^ CNCWhiz - The review I was speaking of is a simple meeting with an admissions representative at Elon. Your case is unique and while Elon doesn’t officially conduct interviews for admissions, they certainly will meet with people to go over the requirements for entering a specialized program as a transfer student.

Elon is the only place to get your questions answered… Everything else would be just wild unfounded speculation, …
