Can I get into George Washington University early decision?

Alright, so I’ve been talking to my guidance counselor about the candidates at my school applying early decision; there are 4. One has a 3.8 gpa with a 27 on acts, another has like a 3.2 with a 28 act. There is a 4th student, but from what i’ve heard their scores and gpa are not anywhere close. So where do you guys think I stack up. Also, the person with the 3.2 has a brother at GW. Thats all I know…

I think that the kid with the 3.8 gpa has a good chance of getting in… 3.8 is pretty high, but I think that you have a better chance than the kid with the 3.2. I dont know how many kids from your school GWU is willing to accept- when I got my interview the guy told me that they base your acceptance on who else is applying from your school, four kids seems like a large amount to me. I got lucky, out of my class of 800 im the only one applying early decision. I agree with you that out of everyone applying to your school you are the second best applicant, but your legacy may help you out a lot. And why are you expecting to find out in a week, I thought everyone finds out on december 15th.
-good luck

thanks, u too! my guidance counselor is very good friends with Dorie Ain, so they talk on the phone a lot…so Dorie said that she’d call when they decide on me. Also, Idk how they can compare me to kids at my school since this is my first year there…

And just to clarify, i totally fudged the 3.2 person’s gpa and scores. I just know that they have a lower gpa than me but a bit higher sat than my act…

Legacy helps but your gpa is really low and your scores aren’t the best. I’d say its a low reach for you.

Chance back?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/804723-chances-ed-dartmouth.html

…thanks for that. just to let u no my act scores are in middle 50% and my gpa isnt Really low, the avg gpa is approximately a 3.5…

“Mid 50 percent ACT range: 28-32”
“Mid 50 percent SAT range: 1870-2090”

You are right under the 50% range which is low. Your GPA is also below the median as well. This wont kill you but it makes GW a low reach. You asked for a chance and you got one.

idk where your getting this data, but mid 50% for act is 25-30, and for sat its like a 590-670 in every section. check out collegeboard man

and i didnt end up submitting my sat anyway…

even if your scores are a little lower I still think you will be fine. My sister got in with a 1790 on SAT and a 3.6 weighted gpa, which was a lot lower than the other students they accepted, and she did not even apply early decision. The fact that you have connections there is going to help you out A LOT, and the fact you are a legacy… I feel like they have to accept you. I wouldn’t worry about it, i’d be really surprised if you dont get in.

their website of 2013 stats…

thanks 10isguy. @ philipper - every college posts high stats than they actually accept. for example, indiana says their average acceptance is a 3.6 gpa and a 29 act…which is total ********. i already got in there with ease. thanks for trying to put me down though…

Just putting it out there -
I obviously want to get into the University, so no doubt, I’ll attempt to refute anyone who strongly disagrees that I will be accepted…Especially those pompous ones who feel the need to be blunt, and disagree with anyone who refutes their claims as well…But everyone else is welcome to voice their opinions. Any other ideas?

apparently, the #4 person has a 2.9 gpa, but is family friends with an admission officer. I’m screwed…

even if he does get in, that doesn’t mean you cant. Plus, I still dont see how they can accept this kid with a 2.9 gpa even if he is friends with an admissions officer.

Thats what I think. Also, there’s always this important question to consider: Does the amount of people at your school applying early decision, really affect your possible acceptance? Especially if everyone has relatively close stats? From the admission officer’s prospective, or from what they allegedly say, They are looking for a reason to accept you, not deny you right? So if a student’s gpa/test scores, and all other relative material are similar to that of a student whom is usually accepted, then that student should get in no matter what. So my thoughts are: Even if this girl gets in because she knows an admission officer; will her acceptance really affect mine? I think/hope not.

I found out that all of the other people applying ed from my school are girls, and I’ve been told that’ll help me since I’m the only guy, so therefore I have a stronger chance b/c of the ratio

I just got an email from the office of admissions that say we find out tomorrow online! good luck!

Thanks dude you too. Im mad nervous yo

I GOT IN!
Screw You Phlipper. Go back to sea world
