Can I get into Georgetown with a few Bs?

I am a junior at an IB school meaning that every single class I take is IB. Currently, I have a 4.05 unweighted GPA, 32 ACT, and am involved in numerous extracurriculars, and am a strong essay writer. However, during the first semester of junior year, I got 2 Bs (with the rest being As). It looks like the same is going to happen the second semester. Does this greatly affect my chances of getting in?

Hi Ellie: You probably know that it won’t help, but it won’t keep you out either. My son had 2 B+s first semester and 1 B+ second semester, after getting straight A’s and got in. You may want to look at re-taking the ACT if you don’t think your grades will be super strong. But as you know, GT is holistic, so they will look at the whole application. Good luck!

The reality is that every single admission season is different from all the others. So no one can really answer your question. Apply if you really want to go to Georgetown, but also apply to other schools where those B’s are less likely to hurt your chances.

Georgetown is a reach for everyone, make sure your college list is balanced with matches and a safety or two.

To put together the strongest application you will also need to submit three subject tests for Georgetown. Seemingly they are going to accept AP test scores in lieu of subject tests starting next year, but since you are an IB student that isn’t relevant for you.
