Also im a girl and I want to major in CS if you couldn’t tell~
I think you might just make it. Your gpa is a bit on the low side but your sat kinda makes up for that. Also schools (especially engineering/tech schools) are ways looking for girls.
Haha thank you I just saw this, yeah I was worried about my Gpa too but I also thought my EC will help me… What ither computer science school do you think I can pull? @iamjack
I think you definitely have a chance! The 4’s and 5’s show that you’re able to handle college level classes. The 5 in AP computer science is helpful, especially since that subject will be your major. Your ECs look nice, but just try to get your GPA up by a little. You seem to be on the right track! Good luck!
Yeah i think you’ll make it. Another advantage is that all engineering schools want more girls and urm’s and your stats are around the average so you would lrobay get in.
@LionKing2398 Thanks! Im a junior so I dont know if I have a chance to raise my gpa, do you know if senior grades get recalculated? I’m sure I can do very well in those classes haha, also @iamjack too, do you know how much AP scores can influence your decisions? i was told they dont matter by some people, but then others say that if your scores are good it can really help
@donewithsat You’re welcome! I’m a rising senior so I haven’t experienced whether or not senior grades get recalculated. My high school recalculates the GPA every year, so I’m assuming that senior grades are recalculated, too. The one thing I can suggest is to make sure to keep your GPA up as much as you can. At my high school, AP classes have a much heavier weight than regular classes, which REALLY boosts the GPA. How many AP classes are you taking this/next year? If you’re able to take a few (more than just 1), then that will definitely help your GPA. Make sure that the classes you take junior year and senior year are rigorous (don’t take easier classes once you get to senior year just because it’s senior year). I know you didn’t ask me about AP scores but I just wanted to add… AP scores don’t matter too much (which is a good thing if you don’t pass the AP exams). However, if your scores are good, then that’s a definite plus. Colleges will like seeing that you’re capable of taking AP/college level courses and still succeed in them. By getting 4’s and 5’s on AP exams, you’re definitely earning college credit, which is obviously a plus! I think that the 5 in AP Comp Sci will be really beneficial for you. That will show that you’re extremely invested and interested in Computer Science. Maybe an internship or something similar in the CS will help you even more.
Anyway, I definitely think you have a decent shot at getting in. Just keep doing what you’re doing (don’t slack off, as that will hurt your GPA, take AP/advanced classes, etc.) and I’m sure you’ll get in.
@donewithsat i doubt they help… most schools dont even ask for ap scores until AFTER you get admitted… in the cases where schools to ask you for ap scores, i think they just ask you to self report them rather than send in official ap scores. but like i said, your other stats alone will get you in.
@LionKing2398 my school doesn’t weight APs as more than an hns class actually, but as of now i am taking ap calculus and ap lit net year. I am also taking physics hns, which is equivalnet to ap physics because we dont have an ap physics are our school (its physics one and two) and Im taking a level of CS that is higher than AP, its, I think, the second college level.
I am currently interning at a company where I am coding and working on many projects. I hope this is good enough haha I really want to get into a good compsci program. Do you think I have a chance at UMich?
@donewithsat With the course load that you described, I think you’re set. You seem to be taking the most rigorous courses available at your high school, so I don’t think you’ll have anything to worry about. The internship will definitely look good! Colleges love high school students interning, especially when it relates to their major.
According to UMich’s website, the incoming 2015 class (middle 50%) stats are: 660-760CR, 690-790M, and 670-770W (2040-2280 overall). Your SAT scores are towards the upper range of these stats, so I think you have a chance! In fact, your SAT is just 30 points below (2250) the upper end of the middle 50% (2280). The average GPA is a 3.85. I wouldn’t worry about that too much since you’re a junior, and you’ll be taking more difficult classes (which will definitely help). So, while your GPA is just a little under the average, your SAT scores make up for it. Overall, yeah, I think you definitely have a chance at UMich. Your transcript is really impressive thus far, so as long as you continue with the upward trend (rigorous classes, increase in GPA) I’m pretty positive you’ll get in!!
May I ask if that score is your recalculated GATech score, or if it is simply your regular score?
GATech calculates test scores by only considering your highest ACT E/SATCR + ACT M/SAT M + ACTE/W / SAT W.
Hi sorry, I’m still in that mindset so I keep messing this up, I will be a senior this coming year. I was a junior still when I made the post haha but I am going to be a senior so my gpa wont change unless colleges recalculate with the senior 1st sem grades, I still hope I have a change at umich and gtech
