Can I get into Harvard,Yale or Princeton

This chance me post is a quintessential example of the “Most annoying threads on CC”

@MITer94 - I think we’re fundamentally in agreement. I’m referring to the type of student who is in the top 1-2% of his/her HS class, with scores in the 750-800 range in SATs and Subject Tests, 34+ ACT, etc. I would agree that admissions for such for a student with typical ECs would be a crapshoot. But if this applicant could help a coach win an Ivy League championship it’s an entirely different story.

Because I’ve known quite a few of these students, I occasionally feel the need to correct the assertion that "it’s a crapshoot for everyone.

@osabnis: your question is whether you can get into any Ivy League. The answer is: anything can happen. But most things don’t.

The better question is: should you even apply?

Your reasons not withstanding, your grades don’t suggest you’re qualified. Perhaps you wrote your posts in a hurry, but your English isn’t quite up to snuff from what I’ve experienced with international Ivy students. Your interest appears to be computer science, and although some Ivies have very good CS programs, arguably, there are schools with better programs. There are other US schools that aid internationals. They’ve been listed on College Confidential more than once.

Is there something wrong with the top Indian universities?
