Can I get into Harvard?

Ever since I knew what Harvard was, I have aspired to go there. Unlike many other aspirants shooting for the Harvard, I value the ambiance much more than the prestige. Furthermore, I hope to major in biomedical engineering.

Here are my stats.

Unweighted GPA: 3.83 (I know that it is really bad)
Weighted GPA: 4.35

SAT Score Hopefully (I haven't taken it yet): Greater than 2300

APs: Biology, Chemistry, Music Theory, Physics, BC Calculus, English, French, Micro and Macro Economics, and Psychology.

Honors: All honors all throughout high school.

Extracurriculars:
Juilliard Pre-College Program for Piano (Less than 10% are accepted to the program.)

Founder/President of Piano Club: Students volunteer to play their musical instruments at
Nursing Homes once every two weeks. Create benefit concerts twice a year in which the money goes to a charity that supplies musical instruments to kids who cannot afford them.

NY All-State for Piano - Only 6 people get accepted out of the thousands that participate.

Music Schools Honors Program (4 Years)

Internship in Laboratory at Columbia University (2 Years for a total of 15 weeks)

School Newspaper (4 Years) - Editor in Chief Senior Year

Tennis Team (6 Years)

Please let me know what you think. Thanks!

Nobody can really chance you with incomplete stats.

However, even if you get a 2300+, you’ll be stuck with thousands of applicants who have the same or better stats as you. Its a lottery for everyone.

Harvard: Reach.

Note: I would be applying Early Decision.

^^. Note: for such a lifelong aspiration, I would have expected you to know that Harvard doesn’t offer Early Decision.

I think for everyone Harvard is a high reach. Your GPA is a little lower than what you would absolutely want it to be but you do have an advantage over some Harvard applicants and that is that your EC’s are really good and not too spread out. You have had tremendous success with piano and that will help. BTW, have you considered maybe talking to the tennis team coach about trying to get on it as that would help your chances tremendously! Good luck and chance back

I meant early action.

^^ I know you meant early action, I was just being snarky, for which I apologize.

Don’t spend too much time and energy on chances. You will attend a great school, possibly Harvard.

Good luck.

You say that you were in Juilliard pre-college for piano…but, did you win or place in the top 3 in any major competitions nationally or internationally? And, I can pretty much guess you are an Asian applicant by your resume (am I right?)…even if you did not mention it. Unfortunately, schools like Harvard and Stanford look for top winners in their specific ECs they are focusing on…

…you will be compared with other top musicians throughout the country and internationally who have won major awards…

…the rest of your bio unfortunately can be easily replicated by so many others from the NY metropolitan area, San Francisco-area, LA area, Boston area, Seattle area, Chicago area, etc…

If you can get that SAT over 2300 you definitely have an excellent shot. I knew a kid who got into HYPS and Julliard who played violin in the julliard pre-college program, took 10 APs, was number 1 in his class, and had a 2290. And for Harvard you would need to apply restrictive early action which means you can only apply early to one private school.

I feel like the comment above is naive in that the poster does not understand the competitiveness of julliard pre-college. People literally have their kids flown in from south Korea or something so their child can audition.

Thanks for everyone’s help! :))))

@Oberyn. First, learn to spell Juilliard correctly…I am very familiar with Juilliard pre-college and all the other conservatory pre-colleges throughout the country and around the world! It’s not as difficult to get into Juilliard “pre-college” as you think it is…many get in by “knowing” someone there and with some simple teacher connections and willing to fork over the “money” for the expensive lessons! Just attending “pre-college” at Juilliard without the major competition awards to go along with it will make quite a “common” application…

…do you know how many top East Asian musicians there are out there…all playing piano, violin, cello at the highest level? Many many…all of them with top scores, grades, founder of some community service, and some semblance/combinations of research, sports activity, newspaper involvement, what have you…

…the question is how to separate yourself from the other applicants…

well you’re safe for the UC’s, just saying…
