I will most likely be attending UCLA/Cal next year and I want to go into Ibanking. I don't know much about the field, except that work hours are horrible and that it pays a lot, but I am certainly interested in it. I have also heard that it is near-impossible to get into ibanking jobs without a degree from ivy/stanford/MIT/other ivy caliber schools... so is it extremely hard to get into ibanking with a degree from UCLA/Berkeley? Also what major should I pursue (I am currently a junior in high school) in either schools if I want to do banking? I am interested in many areas: econ, math, engineering, history, etc.. so choosing a major that I won't like will most likely not be a problem.

you could theoretically get into i banking with a degree even from South Dakota State University.....but jokes aside, UCLA and Berkeley are schools which, as far as I know, recruited by I banks for their offices in california...

If you could graduate from Cal's Haas School of Business, you could definitely find an IB job easily.

What are the differences between offices in California and offices in the east coast? Do east coast ibankers get paid more?

Thanks Hongda, how about UCLA's Anderson? How does that compare to Haas?

For grad school, Anderson is better. However, I would recommand you going to Haas for your undergraduate education.

Hmm okay thanks. What should I major in though? Math? Econ? Math/Econ? Engineering?

what kind of work you wanna do for an i bank? do you want to work in Corporate finance (M&A etc) or in a more quantitative role (derivatives pricing, quant research etc)?

if you're going to work in a quantitative position, then i recommend math + econ, otherwise, just econ will be fine...

which one is higher paying (if there is a difference)? I think I would like a more of a quantitative position though.

Berkeley is amazing for investment banking. Advice: Join a business frat. Seriously. See you at rush!

Does anyone know about the i-banking placements in other UCs? I'm talking about Davis, Irvine, and San Diego. There seems to be a couple every year.
