Can I get Into Ivies?

hello guys,

My stats are the following:
4.0 GPA unweighted.
5.0 GPA weighted
I have taken 1 AP class as a sophomore and 3 APs as a junior. I will be taking 6 APs next year.
I have ran cross country and my ECs are decent. I am in a couple of clubs. I am the President of National Honors Society at our school.
My SAT score is 1950 (but I will not submit it)
My projected ACT score is 32
And most importantly, I come from a low income family.
Also, I have recently moved from a southeastern Asian country (not India).

So what are my chances?

Also I have gotten a 4 in 3 Ap exams and a 3 in one Ap exam

  1. When it comes to Ivy chances, there is no way to chance anyone since the Ivies are Reaches for everyone applying.
  2. You have no solid ACT score and a non-competitive SAT score.
  3. Nothing in your resume stands out as being unique or highly competitive.

I do not want to crush your dreams but you need to look at some realistic choices.

It will probably be a stretch if you don’t have any other pronounced hooks. This is especially true applying as an Asian applicant, where the mean scores are very high at the Ivy schools. The good news is that there are a great many other schools that you can make successful application–best.

Do as well as you can on the ACT or re-take the SAT. To be a competitive applicant (roughly the middle of all accepted applicants) at Ivies, Stanford, Chicago, MIT, etc., you want to shoot for at least a 32-34 ACT or 2200-2250 SAT. I gave ranges because some schools are stricter on test scores than others.

The 4.0 UW GPA is great. Hopefully you have taken the toughest classes possible (or nearly so) so you’ll be recognized for class rigor as well.

Make your ECs stick out, collect great letters of recommendation, and write powerful essays to improve your chances.

Since the elite schools tend to be reaches for everyone, make sure you also apply to some match schools and at least one safety. A safety is a school you wouldn’t mind attending, that you can afford, and that is nearly certain to admit you.

Would under represented Asian countries still count as being “Asian”?

@zhanzohan yes. No matter what type of asian you are, you are an asian.

That is so stupid. I guess I am not going into ivyes then…

@VictorianLass You should create your own thread for that.

OP, do you qualify to apply under questbridge? Otherwise, definitely retake the ACT and aim for 34 at the very least, preferably a 35/36 super scored.

@VictorianLass you won’t get in with that SAT score unless you’re a minority. As for the OP, you show no EC’s, and you scores are too low. Pick a school suited for your stats because there a lot of good school you have a chance at. I can’t help you with naming other colleges that suit you since you didn’t state your major.

EC’s are really important. You have to be well rounded in every area for Ivies. I learned this after facing rejections. If you have a only a 32 ACT, but several amazing EC’s, then you have a chance to get in. Otherwise, almost no chance. But apply anyways, just don’t be discouraged if the results are not positive. Instead, focus more on schools you are suited for
