can i get into ivys, UC Berkeley or UCLA with this score??

Im a junior right now
I got 2330 on SAT
3.87 unweighted gpa
But i dont do any sports

I know someone who got into UCLA with a 1770 on their SAT - no sports but a lot of extracurriculars and high gpa.

I am founder and the president of Korean Friends Club and got 100+ members in the first year
i also am the president of korean school
I have 200+ hours of volunteering hours
key club for 3years
math club for 3 years
Got sat2s done. 800 on math 2c and 800 on korean. (Im gonna take physics in the future)
Also a member of CYS (california youth symphony) for 3years now

no red flags pop up. i think you have decent chances to berkeley, ucla, cornell, and maybe some other ivys.

I did speech & debate for 2 years

Why not?

I do have a general question (for others). I think it is unnecessary to try for a higher score than 2300, however, would it be logical to assume that an SAT taken October of Senior year would be somewhat (40-50 points) higher due to the additional maturity in Language Arts over that period (from October Junior year)? I know math testing is only up to pre-calc, so that score would not likely improve. I did not know people took the SAT this early on.

What’s your UC UW GPA? UC W GPA (capped)? UC W GPA (uncapped)? What’s your rank in relation to your classmates? UC weigh more on UC GPA than scores.

@2018dad, UC GPA is predominantly (only?) 10th & 11th grade. OP is in first semester of 11th grade. It looks auspicious for her.

You seem fine for the UCs, but Ivies look for the wow factor, not just high scores. Right now your ECs are average for Ivy candidates, so recommendations and outstanding essays will need to indicate your uniqueness.

I might get great score eligible for national merit program…
but i have one question… i had C in bio honors in freshmen (god pls help me) will that affect my admission into IVYs? UCs?

Uw gpa is 3.87
w gpa is def more than 4… like 4.12 or more
our school doesnt give the juniors ranks yet, so i dont know about that

Yup, come back when you have all Junior grades. Good job on your SAT score though. What’s the breakdown?

Cr 750
m 800
wr 780

honestly, my gpa isnt as high…

Remember that UC only consider your Sophomore and Junior grades. So that C in Freshmen will not be computed on your UC GPA. The reader of your app will see it though.

You are a junior, wait for your junior year.

@2018dad but it would count for Ivys right??

OP, Admissions Officers are human, and they realize you are human, too. Many holders of perfect GPAs get rejected from top schools. Obsessing over perfection is not helpful. How does an event that happened in 7th or 8th grade affect you now, today? that is similar to where you will be with this grade when your application is evaluated. I think you need to give the admissions officers some credit in developing a full picture of you as a candidate. They are not really out to find “gotcha” imperfections- they are most likely trying to understand how you as a whole person will fit into the fabric of the school- will you be an asset, and will the school feed your soul and bring out the best in you? If the school obsesses over a single grade or any single event from nearly half a decade prior, do you really want to go to that school?

so, basically my grades + essay is what matters

No, your evidence of being a good person who is competent and capable is what matters. Your grades and test scores indicate at what level you operate- how rapidly and thoroughly you acquire and digest information, so that you can be assessed against the level and pace new material is presented to you for a successful outcome. Your extracurriculars and sports show your interests and time management skills. Your essays and recommendations (and interview) open a window on your values and approach to problem solving.

Grades + essays are a part of the application process. Who you are as a person and what talents, ability to influence, attitude, and perseverance you bring to your life are what matter.
