Cornell - reach
Rest - match or in

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/831784-i-cant-where-apply-will-chance-back-quickly.html

For UMich (I’m guessing Ann Arbor for Engineering) is pretty much a definite for you (I hate definite yeses or nos because you really never know).

Hopkins is a match, only because the decisions are strange this year (the applicant pool is very strong, and unfortunately, I’ve seen many very talented and gifted people being turned away).

Berkeley is possibly a match, although may lean towards the reach end, only because of location. The UC schools are pretty selective, and the large majority of the acceptances are typically in-state. If it was solely based on numbers, location aside, you’d definitely be in.

As Ivies, Columbia and Cornell automatically go into the reach category, but you seem to have a pretty good chance at Cornell. For Columbia, it’s going to be a little more difficult, especially since there’s so many applicants from Jersey and the tri-state area as a whole, but your chances are pretty high based on your stats.

Amazing CR & M scores, by the way (the only ones that count, unfortunately for me).
You’re athletic and musical talents make your ECs really strong, and the extra programs outside school show that you’re passionate about engineering. The only possible “weakness” would be the lack of SAT IIs, but your app is quite strong overall. Best of luck!

Cornell - reach
rest- match

Chance me back please!

i would think every school besides cornell would be a def. in, or very good match,
you have great scores and ec’s.

I would say everything is a match except for Cornell. But you have a really good chance at Cornell too - you want to make sure in your apps that you stress the whole music factor b/c otherwise you will look like a lot of other qualified, smart applicants. Btw, I went to NJ Gov’s school for sciences last year - if you get in PLEASE GOOOOOOO ! it’s amaaazing. and it looks great on your app

Oh, and try to get on those SATIIs because colleges will want to see those.

Good luck!

[thread=830377]Chance me! :slight_smile: Will chance back[/thread]

JHU match
Cornell safety
Berkeley safety
Columbia match
UMich safety

What type of engineering do you want to do?
Berkeley is the highest ranked for engineering on your list, but California is not in a good financial state at the moment.
JHU is the best if you want to do something biology/medicine related.
The others don’t look so appealing to me.

What’s all this hype about Cornell? It’s definitely easier to get into than Columbia and JHU.
You should take a look at Stanford as a reach and UMaryland as a safety.

Thanks a lot. Group theory, I am planning on going to medical school after my undergrad. Various people have told me that it is not necessary to do Pre- Med, and it may even hurt. Therefore, I was looking into a wide range of enginnering options, my top choices being biomedical and civil. Any thougts? Also is there anything I can do to improve my chances at these schools? From what I have seen this year, there have been many denials and defferals for very strong students even from match or safety schools. Thank you.

BTW I have taken SAT 2s:

Chemistry: 700 (I was never very good at)
World History: 740
Biology: Pending
Math 2: Pending

Any others I should take?

Too anxious?
Just relax. You are applying to at least 5 schools, you will be admitted by at least one of them. Don’t worry about it so much. Everything looks solid. You just have to hope for the best. You can only work on your essays at this time if you are applying this year. If you are going to apply to schools senior year, then just do whatever you like and improve at it. You are very strong for a junior. My stats were definitely a lot weaker at this time last year and I got into MIT. I did improve a lot this past year, but it wasn’t for the purpose of getting into college at all. I didn’t even think about college at all last year. The only schools I knew about back then were JHU and Maryland and I assumed I was going to end up at one of them. Completely forget about looking at colleges for a few months; actually focus on something meaningful.

JHU: match
Cornell: high match
Berkeley: match
Columbia: low reach
UMich.: in

Try to get your GPA up and other than that, you shoud be fine

bump…h

JHU p robably in/match
cornell/match
berk: reach (insanely hard for OOS folks)

good luck! : )

please chance back?
