I’m currently going into my junior year of school and have a 3.1765 GPA to this point, I’ve been taking all honors classes since 9th grade and will be taking 3 AP’s next year, I’ve yet to take my ACT’s or SAT but my PLAN test predicted id score a 24 on the ACT. I play 2 sports and am part of my schools Board of Trustees along with their community service organization, i also dont know how ethnicity would play into admissions ut i am black, I Know ill have to bring my GPA up but im really just wondering if UMD is a realistic goal or not.
The ACT mid range for Maryland is a 29-33, so you need much better test scores, along with a better GPA. I would call it a reach.
Don’t give up though, study really hard for your ACT and SAT!
I’m from MD, so I know a lot of people that went. If you want it to be your:
Safety: You need 3.7-8+ uw gpa and a 4.5+ w gpa, more leadership, 30+ on the ACT
Reach: 3.5ish uw, 4.2is w, leadership, 27-8ish on the ACT
Right now, I dont think its very realistic, I’m sorry. Dont give up though! UMD offeres plenty of ways to get into the school, you can 1) apply for early decision (nonbinding) 2) apply regular decision 3) make it into the night classes (if you dont make it into regular school) and 4) make it into the spring semester
