Hey everyone,
I recently visited both MIT and Carnegie Mellon, and I love both of them! I am looking to apply to engineering at both institutions, with my second choice being computer science. I was wondering if the great people of this forum could tell me if I have a chance at these two colleges, or if I’m reaching beyond my means.
Thanks!

Background: I am a white male, attend boarding school, and come from an upper-middle class family.
Currently a senior
My school’s grading scale is on a 7 scale, and my junior year GPA was 6.41. My 1st quarter GPA for this year is 7.12 (weighted). This translates roughly into the 4 scale as a 3.95 and 4.38 respectively, although our school reports GPA to colleges on the 7 scale. The 4.0 conversions are just for your reference.
Our school does not do class rankings, due to its competitive nature.
ACT: 34
SAT II Math: 780
SAT II Chem: 730
(those are the scores from my first subject tests. I have done no prep work, and plan to do some before I take them again in December.)
Our school offers very few APs to non-seniors, and even fewer to underclassmen. This is due to the rigorous coursework associated with an AP class.
APs taken: Biology–> Score of 4
APs Currently: Calculus BC, Physics C Mechanics/E&M, Economics, Chemistry
Extra Curriculars: Student Ambassador (Tour guide), President of Model United Nations, President of Film Club, Physics/Math Tutor, Dorm Prefect (Similar to an RA for college), Freelance Filmmaker (paid corporate video shoots), and I build/fix computers for people
I am also an Eagle Scout
I have great recommendations from my teachers
I have held 2 summer jobs: Pharmacy Technician at a local independent Pharmacy (3 summers)
Internship at Website Developing Firm (this summer)
