I will make sure I will apply early.
I was born and still live in Michigan.
My brother recently graduated from Lyman Briggs Michigan State
I will get three letters of recommendation

Please let me know my chances, I'm really worried. I won't be able to get my GPA up anymore and I probably can't raise my ACT score much if not any.

Other Choices:
Syracuse University
Boston University
Northeastern University

Money is not a problem either, I am of Indian ethnicity (M).
Top 35% of Class

Well, retake the ACT and see how that goes. Why can’t you get your GPA up? If you get it up to 3.3+ then you have a much better shot. A 3.1 isn’t great, but your ACT would be in range. You have to apply EARLY.

“even with all of my hard work in high school.”
Hard work? Hard work got you a 3.1?! Maybe you should consider CC if a 3.1 was hard to obtain in high school.

The ACT score is fine. It is the charlies on the transript that will put you on the fence. State likes to see an upward trend in GPA so this could help you. Work on bringing up your grades. A leadership position in one of the EC’s would also enhance your application.

“even with all of my hard work in high school.”
Hard work? Hard work got you a 3.1?! Maybe you should consider CC if a 3.1 was hard to obtain in high school.

I don’t need negative comments thanks, If I took all regular and blow off classes I could have easily obtained a 4.0

Just because I challenged myself and screwed up in my some of my hardest classes doesn’t mean I should go to community college.

No offense, but those aren’t “hard” classes that would push your GPA down that much. PS was a bit harsh, but her message is right. (Not about the CC).

Btw, you’re not going to get far on here with that attitude.

MSU will likely deffer you. That’s about the help you’re going to get now. Good day!

Pshhh I graduated from high school with a 4.04 and I took 8 AP classes and all honors, as well as five years of a language. So please, no one, not even MSU, cares about how hard you worked to get a 3.1.
You WILL be deferred. You don’t belong at MSU, especially with that attitude.

You could always find a cure for cancer. That would get you in.

I actually think you have a pretty good chance… but what do I know…

and psilovethomas… Not everyone can get a 4.04 GPA. I work my ass off and I have a 3.3.

Then work harder. I worked hard to get a 4.04, but I could have worked harder and achieved a higher GPA.

Cody2010- The OP’s GPA is considerably lower than the average admitted GPA.
High school GPA: 3.41-3.85

I got accepted this year with a 3.0 GPA. It’s not impossible.

psilove, I know many people with better grades then you, drop the ego.

Also a 4.04 means nothing if you are counting it as being weighted some schools use a 5.0 scale or 6.0 scale. so a 4.04 isn’t your actual GPA.

I noticed you keep commenting in this thread maybe because I made you upset but if my grades were weighted like normal schools I would have a 3.4 or so.

Thank you, I’mOnABoat. What program did you apply for? or did you go undecided?

Also most of the responses in this thread have been pretty rude, I know the two guys who posted here are like that in most threads though.

^ I went undecided and put “English” as my major.

Seriously, don’t let these people bog you down. Just like you, they told me that it’s a huge reach and that I wouldn’t get in… but look… I got in. I didn’t even get deferred first.

It IS hard to get into like romani says, but there are exceptions.

Good luck!!

~6% of people get into MSU with less than a 3.0. Sorry, it’s rare.

Never said it was. I go by statistics.

That’s because the people who apply with less then a 3.0 usually get like a 17 on the ACT and end up at CMU. you can’t compare ACT and gpa.

You don’t belong at MSU, especially with that attitude.

Quite an attitude! You’d think ps was talking about HYP not MSU

The OP’s GPA is considerably lower than the average admitted GPA.

Half the admits have a GPA that lower than the average admitted GPA.

a 4.04 isn’t your actual GPA

That would seem obvious unless they’ve changed basic arithmetic.

You WILL be deferred.

ps must have a crystal ball because you don’t have junior grades yet. You may be deferred but MSU eventually admits a lot of those deferred. There’s a good chance they will want to see 7th semester grades.

Keep up the hard work and have faith.

Thank you rep ipsa!

Also rep what do you think I should do for senior year? take easy classes and get a really good gpa? or take the classes I have planned and do average? (3.3-3.4ish)
