Hey guys, I had a really rough start Freshman year, I'm currently a sophomore in high school, and I want to know if I will be able to get into NC State.

Freshman Classes:
Health-A
Speech-A
English 1 (H)-B
Biology (H)-B

Principles of Business-C
Sports and Entertainment Marketing-B
Geometry (H)-F (I later made this up so it will show up as a P on my transcripts)
World History (H)-B

This made my GPA a 3.2 weighted. I am getting a 4.0 for this semester with 3 honors classes, and im taking AP classes. My problem was being lazy, my SAT will most likely be around 2100. Is it possible for me to get into NC State? If I heavily bring up my GPA the next 2 years?

Are you a NC resident? NC State is a fairly easy school to get into. If you bring that GPA up and do good on ACT and SAT you should be fine. My suggestion is to get involved NOW in in school and out of school volunteer and EC’s that will help you out greatly. It will actually look good to schools to see that even though freshman year you messed up a little you turned it around for yourself. I heard NC State accepted like 96% in state resident applicants. So don’t stress it.

It isn’t the easiest school in the NC system to get into, in state or not. Depending on what you plan to major in, your chances differ. Majoring in history is different from majoring in engineering. NC State has different departments or “colleges” that correspond with majors. The criteria can differ as some departments are much more competitive than others. You can check out some posts on this site about people posting their stats and decisions. Honestly, it’s too soon to tell but I’m sure you’ll be fine. It’s good that you have a school in mind to work towards. Take your SAT and ACT and keep up your grades and GPA. You don’t have to have perfect scores. Showing passion and motivation is helpful. Maybe you could mention on one of your essays how you stepped up to the plate after freshman year. Get involved in EC’s and stay active in them. You’ll be just fine!

Take a look at this post NC State put up last year about their freshman facts. If anything, competition has grown over the years. And I see no mention of 96% being accepted…
