Can I get into NYU, Berkeley, Duke, UVA?

I'm a british student hoping to go to America.

I've finished my IB and my scores were...

SL: Maths-4, English-6, French-5

HL: Geography-7, Economics-6, Physics-5 + 1 bonus point. Total = 34

GCSE's: English-B, Maths-A, Art-B, Science-A, Additional Science-A, French-A, Spanish-A, Polish-A, Geography-A, Music-A

ECs... football (soccer), cricket, hockey, rugby

Violin in orchestra for 5 years, been playing for 10 years Play percussion for 7 years.

Work experience at a law firm.

Community service that comes with doing IB CAS

Havn't done my SATs yet...

Also, seeing as I don't have a GPA, how much emphasis will the universities put on my frankly poor IB score... I was so shocked when I got the results - I was hoping for 37+

The IB score will be your GPA. It’s low for these schools, but we can’t begin to chance without SAT scores, they’ll be critical.

Duke will be unlikely given the IB, but high scores could make the others possible.

How do I convert my IB in GPA then?

My IB was 36 and I got into 3 ivies + Duke, Rice and other highly selective schools. I was only rejected at Berkeley and MIT. But then again, that was 11 years ago and things may have changed a bit now. Your 34 will kill you at some top-rated schools like Duke and Brown these days. Berkeley might give you a chance – if you will not need aid – as they’re trying to increase the number of international students.

BTW, I helped out/assisted a kid from Birmingham, UK, apply to some US schools just last year. His IB was 35. He got into Berkeley, USC, Northwestern, Columbia, Cornell, Rice and Bates and Syracuse. He was only denied admissions from Stanford, Duke, Pomona and Williams. But he has an incredible EC. He’s now doing maths at Berkeley and loving it there a lot.
