Hi, so I am currently a junior and have been looking at NYU as my first choice for college. I’ve been wanting to go since I was a kid and was wondering if I even have a shot.
My GPA weighted is 4.3, unweighted a 3.5.
I am currently taking 3 honors classes and 3 AP classes and next year I am taking 5 AP classes.
My SAT is a 2090 and I am planning on taking the SAT Math Subject II test next month.
I’ve had a job since my sophomore year at a tutoring company called Kumon and am also interning at a bank this summer, and I am interning with a city council member also this summer.
I’ve been captain of my schools softball team for 2 years. I am in several clubs, including Red Cross, Make A Wish, and Spanish Honors Society, and probably am going to be a board member for one next year. I’ve done 90+ hours of community service and will be doing more.
As for what I am planning on majoring in, most likely business but I am not completely sure yet. I might end up applying as an undeclared major.
You can apply as an undeclared major but you can only apply to one college as your top choice. If you want to do business, it’s the Stern school, which may be tough since both your GPA and SAT are both below average. I think you’re a good candidate for CAS, Tandon, Gallatin and Steinhardt, though, although your GPA may be a bit low for CAS.
Don’t think that Stern is out of the question. As long as your two part is > 1400 and you continue to improve your GPA, i think you definitely have a chance. Getting an internship over the summer can also work well in your favor.
I think you have a decent shot. I was accepted into Tandon as class of 2020. Here are my stats as a reference. I’m OOS btw.
GPA: 3.89/4. Weird calculations. This is a weighted GPA but it can’t exceed 4. So grades over a 100 are still counted as a regular A.
ACT: 34
Sat 2: Math 2 - 800 Physics - 690
AP classes: AP Bio, APWH, APUSH, AP Lang, AP Physics 1, AP Physics C, AP Calc BC, AP Gov/Econ. Didn’t send any AP scores lol.
I think my essays played a key role because of my low GPA and lack of AP scores. I spent a lot of time on them and I loved the final draft.
Another piece of advice: you never know what might happen. I didn’t think I would get in, but I did. I got rejected from Stanford, but I somehow got wait listed by the University of Chicago (under 10% acceptance lol).
oh really? that’s good to know thank you!
wow that’s really good but also surprising haha! thanks for the imput
