i have a 3.52 weighted gpa, national honor society, ive been in the mentoring program, art club, unified program, track team. i'm planning on majoring in film, and am going to be entering a film festival this summer, if that would help. i also got a 1170 (CR,M) on my SATs but that was my first time taking them so i'll probably do better my next time.

You GPA is marginal for NYU and your SAT total should be at least 2100 to be in serious contention for NYU.

Even looking at just the CR/M scores, you need more than a 200 point bump to put yourself in the running.

Your GPA is a respectable score for NYU, but the EC’s are extremely weak and the SAT won’t cut it

A friend of mine applied to Tisch for a major in film. From what I understand, the film school puts more emphasis on the portfolio than on straight grades and test scores. It would definitely be helpful to improve your SAT scores, but your GPA is pretty solid. Work to improve those, but at the same time make sure that your portfolio submission is impressive. [I’d call being a part of a film festival pretty impressive, but I’m not on the admissions committee!]

The admissions office will only consider your unweighted GPA which would make it well below the average of 3.76. Your standardized scores are also well below the average which I believe are around 1350. Your chance will largely depend on your portfolio submission since admissions into art school is different from other majors.

Some others to also possibly check into are Ithaca, Emerson (Boston), Ohio U, Drexel (Philly), Temple (Philly), RIT, Suny University at Buffalo and GMU. Best of luck!
