Can I get into Ole Miss?

I have a 2.86 weighted GPA, I'm from Connecticut ,I have taken 1 AP class and 2 honor classes in my high school career. I play Lacrosse, I have some community service hours. I got a 1390 on my SAT's, 900 combined (500 Reading, 400 Math) I want to study political science. Will I be accepted?

I wouldn’t say it’s impossible, but your test scores are definitely on the low end, and your GPA isn’t doing you any favors either. If you can, try studying and retaking the SAT and take the ACT, since some people do better on one test or the other. If you can’t, well, apply and try it, but if you get rejected, you can always go to an open admissions college, get a decent GPA for a year, and then transfer.

I think you’ll be fine, even with that GPA and SAT composite. It’s Ole Miss.

Kellybkk, you should really do some research before you post. The 25%ile for Miss is 920 for CR+M and less than 30% of admits had <3.0 GPA. I think retaking the SAT or ACT is a good idea.

OP, can you pay full freight for Miss?

It’s almost December so its late, and I honestly doubt retaking the SATS will improve my score because I am terrible at math I received a 400 both times I took it, and this time I had some prep work, and if I improve a little in reading it won’t matter, I’m great at social studies courses I’ve never received under an A in any history, government, class ever but the SAT doesn’t show that

If you can’t take it again, then so be it, but it will be very difficult to get accepted if you’re under the 25th percentile and unhooked.

Got my acceptance letter yesterday, Hotty Toddy !

Congratulations.

Hey ARose (and, for future reference, Erin’s Dad) – the Ole Miss website expressly states that “regular admission will be granted” to applicants who have at least a 2.5 gpa in the college prep curriculum and a 760 on the SAT (CR and M), or a 2.0 gpa and an 860 on the SAT. So, you were never in doubt. Congratulations.

Interesting. I’ve never seen guaranteed acceptance standards before.

How great to have that certainty! It would make for a happier high school experience to know exactly what was expected.

That IS good information, and congrats to the OP on the acceptance. That said, college academics will be quite challenging, and you might want to consider a math tutor if you have to take anything remotely math-related. I am not trying to be insulting at all- I know a lot of kids at Penn who had math tutors.

Thanks for the congratulations everyone, and yeah I will need some help in math but I’m majoring in Political Science and will probably do my best to stay away from it, hotty toddy

Political Science is intensely mathematical and statistical - better plan on those tutors!

Most political science course plans require very little math at all…

haha I know idk what gadad is talking about, political science is the study of the government and public policy etc… I took AP GOV my junior year which is similar and did great and there was no math…

Good luck at Ole Miss man

thanks man I’m looking forward to it already got a ton of shirts lol

^^^ Here you go ARose - check out the stats:

And, oh yeah - Hoddy Toddy!

gadad when I say I am bad at math that means I have trouble calculating formulas and what not what you just sent me were graphs that I can easily comprehend, Poli Sci doesn’t ask you to calculate percentages they ask you to comprehend them amongst a lot of other things. Did you actually look at that page you sent me? It doesn’t give you numbers and ask you do find a curve or slope etc I can easily look at what you sent me and comprehend it…
