I have a GPA of 94.5 percent
I also drastically improved my GPA I went from 90 to 97 but the average made 94.5 the highest.
I started an art show funding the missions at my school and organized and planned a service trip to honduras could I get in?

Short answer: no reason why you can't
Long answer: probably not
Full answer: come back later when I'm willing to write it.

I don't know, can you? You should try and report back to us.

can I get what WHAT?

CC threads are getting lamer by the second

pff lol venus :) i think you're right. people these days want a "chances" evaluation, but they are getting lazier and lazier, expecting others to respond to a simple statement of SAT + GPA...

the only way a chances thread should EVER be so short is if the statement you make is along the lines of: "i cured cancer and forced world peace....", otherwise, you need the whole deal.

and nice formatting is always a plus :)

okay
I am a white male from the north shore suburbs of chicago
I am on the sailing team
I am in the Dumbach scholars honors program
my school does not rank
I go to a private school, loyola academy in wilmette, IL
I have not taken any of my tests yet
I was wondering if Penn is possible
and what test scores do I need in order to get in
I will be taking a mini course this summer at brown univeristy and will participate in lead america's medical summer program at Georgetown
I hope to major in Biology/pre med

I also have over 140 service hours and am a leader in my schools amnesty international program

Oh
I also am in my schools highest science program and will have a total of 5 AP classes including calculus.

I also might take a summer pre college course at penn

Get cracking on those ACT/SATs then. You have a shot at Penn depending on how good those scores are.

Just be cool. Here are Penn's middle 50% SAT score ranges for accepted applicants (25% of accepted applicants had scores below the ranges, 25% had scores above the ranges). Obtained from college board:
SAT Critical Reading: 650 - 740
SAT Math: 680 - 770
SAT Writing: 650 - 740

just remember these averages include all recruited athletes. In reality, if you arn't recruited for sports, than for the best chance you need to have them on the higher end. Good luck man.

Yep, tctennis is right--so don't go below those ranges (below = the bottom 25% of accepted applicants = athletes and special cases)

but with a gpa of only 94.5, that was a result of drastic improvement, can I still get into an ivy league school.
and does early decision matter?

ok jack, im going to give you a response, but it is going to be very blunt, no offense meant, but this is how you stand:

first off, you sound like a kid who just wants to go to an ivy league for the hell of it, because, well, its the ivy league and everyone wants to go there. i might be wrong, and i might be right. whatever the case is, change your attitude and make sure you dont come off this way to the adcom. i suggest finding legitimate reasons for wanting to apply to all the schools on your list, and then focusing your EC's around those reason. ill give an example, i love bioengineering and decided to pursue a BE course of study at columbia university this past summer. i also made sure my school curriculum was engineering-centric. i also made sure i explained this in depth in my why penn essay (which btw, is another important reason to have a good reason for applying to any college. they can usually see through people applying solely for prestige).

other than that, your stats look average. try and get your sat's up real high, along with SAT II's, as thatll give you some leeway.

with different colleges, admissions is different, but with penn, they definitely like students who show a ****load of interest in their school, as it will help their matriculation percentage, so try your best to get your ass over there and show some interest ;)

ED generally helps, but more so if you are a legacy/athlete. apply ED if you really want to go to a school, otherwise dont. dont apply ED just for a statistical advantage, because i guarantee you the kids that apply ED are just as competitive as those that apply RD, but show a ****load more interest than the latter group in the school. i got deferred, in case you were wondering.

thats about all i will say for now. again though, sloppy formatting :(

^impboy is ****ed because he probably wants to go to Penn more than anyone and has to wait less than 2 days to be accepted.

lol venkat ;) nah im not ****ed (if thats what you said, stupid censoring stuff). haha yea ive decided, screw waiting another 2 weeks, im gonna call my sister from the airplane 20 minutes before take off and ask for my decision :)

but again jack, dont think i was intentionally bashing you, i just tried to give honest feedback. but i was being truthful about the formatting thing...absolutely horrendous ;)

I apologize for seeming like I want to go to an Ivy league school for the hell of it. But, I really do want to go to Penn. I think it has one of the United States' finest medical schools.

I am considering taking a full summer school course at Penn next summer. I really am interested in going to Penn because I think it is a great school where I can get a good education that can prepare me for medical school.

I really want to go there.
Prestige is not what matters.
I wanted to go to Penn before I even new it was an Ivy League school.
I also think it is in a great city and has an amazing campus

Oh and I guess I dont know what you mean by formatting

Its not just him , if he is

Jack- Your SAT and SAT 2 scores will need to be high. Your essays too will have to be creative , to show why Penn should choose you out 18000+ applicants. The essays are very important as they show the admissions committee who you are. Penn have not changed their topics for quite some time so you might want to look them up and get an idea of them.

Try to show relevant proofs of your desire to go to Penn because of their excellent feaures , faculty , curriculum etc not just because of its IVY League tag. This is very important just as impboy said.

ED does give you an edge. If Penn is your numero uno - apply there.

Im not sure if Penn is need-blind , you will have to check that up.

Cheers!
