so im going to be a senior in high school this upcoming year i live in new jersey and im hoping to go to pitt but Im not sure i can get it. i will have wrestled all 4 years. i scored a 610 in math and 520 in critical reading on my SATs. my gpa is about a 3.3 without any AP classes, but i am taking AP stat this year(i ****ed up my freshman year and my grades were pretty bad). My grades arent anything good but my extracurriculars are good. ive been student council VP and president of my school. im an eagle scout and in peer leaders. I went to boys state and am also in the first year of a leadership program called martin luther king stand for diversity. I want to go into business management. any luck of me getting in? incase anyone applied last year with similar credentials

I think you have a good chance. Here are some stats:

Are you able to re-take the SATs? You might try doing some critical reading practice questions to see if you can bring that up a bit.
An upward grade trend is certainly better than the reverse. You’ll want to keep your grades up senior year. Applying early, good essays, and strong recommendations will all help you. Good luck!

You should consider Pitt a “reach” school and apply to other schools as back-ups.

Your GPA puts you in the bottom 20% of students currently attending. SAT Math, bottom 30% or so. SAT reading, bottom 15% or so. You CAN get in, and you SHOULD apply. But have backups ready just in case. (The College Board website has the stats if you’d like to see them.)

Unfortunately, the Pitt application for admission does not have much room to point out your own special attributes, so the admissions decision is going to be based primarily on your grades and test scores. [EDIT: I forgot there’s an essay, too.] However, you can help your cause by making a call to the admissions office after you submit your application, to express your interest. And I agree with MD_Mom’s suggestion to re-take the SAT.

By the way, Pitt has three (or four, I forget) satellite campuses. The application asks you to rank them in order of preference. If you’re not admitted to the Oakland (main) campus, you may be admitted to one of the others, and then you can transfer later if your grades are decent. It’s up to you to decide whether it’s worth the trouble, though. Best of luck!

Pitt has rolling admissions so apply EARLY!

I just applied to Pitt with a 3.71 GPA and an 1110 on my SATS to the college of business and administration and they asked me for my mid-year grades. I’m not really sure if thats a good sign or not but we have pretty similar credentials so i definitely think that you should try but it might be a reach.
