Ohk got itt. Thanked a lot
I was thinking about other options too. Like someone here advised. How’s University of Alabama
Thanks a lot. I have a few in mind. Lemme research my options and then I’ll contact you?
okay then, if you can consider some of the colleges in ~top 10%, you hve a lot of choices beside Princeton and community colleges.
Can you access a book titled Princeton Review’s Best Colleges? Edition 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 are all okay.
Can you edit a good 5mn video of yourself, with a 1mn introduction (name, age, height, GPA, SAT scores, team name, rank in state out of … teams, jersey number, position) + technique with the ball, especially control, passes, dribbling + footage from real games in X, XI, XII?
Keep in mind that the level is much higher in the US than in India, so that you’d have 1° to be very good and 2° to realize that’s still not quite a tip for admissions at most colleges, but may be if a D3 is looking for a small player with your technical skills.
(But forget Princeton or any top 30 university/LAC).
Are you a boy or a girl?
Hello fellow desi. I’m in complete agreement with the excellent advice you’ve gotten above. Your chances of getting in as an international with a SAT of 1380 is almost nil. There are plenty of state-side desis with much higher scores and stats than you, all who get routinely rejected. The admissions officers will urge you to apply, because they want more applications…to drive down their acceptance rates.
Princeton could fill its class with 4.0/1600 many times over. Definitely there are lots of kids from the subcontinent who get in each year, but they will have extraordinary packages. If you are going to apply early action/early decision to a US college, save it for one where you have a decent chance. Don’t waste it on Princeton. Look for colleges where your scores/grades are at or above the median. The early decision could push you over the top for acceptance.
There are plenty of US colleges which will take someone like you. $25K USD per year will get you pretty far. Have you also considered UK colleges? You will only need to pay for 3 years of tuition.
Hey, sorry had some tests going on.
- I’m a boy.
- I don’t think I would be able to provide footage of my matches as indian tournaments are not that organised.
- Yes the 5 mn video would be possible. But how will it help. Can you elaborate?
- I am considering colleges like University of Alabama and Stony Brooks University. Are they good?
Regards
Hello
Actually I have researched my options and narrowed down to 5-10 Universities/colleges. I’ve realised why Princeton admission officers try to get more applicants thanks to you .
Are you in abroad already or still in the process of going there?
OP, the general baseline to qualify for a tippy top is about 750/750, all scores at that level or higher. When you look at the mid-50th percent score ranges, you want to be near or above the 75th percentile numbers. So, P shows Math at 730-790-- meaning you’d need to be near 790. EBRW is 700-770, meaning near 770. You can see how tough this is. Check that sort of data for any college you consider.

And your ECs are bball, bball, Space Olympiad (but in 7th grade. Adcoms focus on the high school years.) Some comm service and some other school activities. What directly relates to CS, other than knowing some programming languages?
Someone said get a Princeton Review book of colleges. Or get the Fiske Guide to Colleges. You sound motivated and bright, but need a better understanding of the process here and what matters. An Early application, other than the athletic recruits, isn’t an extra boost, in itself.
Best wishes.
Princeton, being so out of reach, isn’t really my primary aim. Even though it has been my dream, it isn’t really achievable at this point.
Instead for my Bachelor’s, I would go to other colleges like University of Alabama.
Can you suggest me some good colleges in 20k tuition range?
Thanks
Run the schools’ NPC’s .
Yep…the actual tuition is irrelevant. Each college has a NPC (net price calculator). You will need details of your parents income before running the NPC. Each college will generally have their own metrics. The NPC calculator will give you a rough estimate of how much you would be charged if accepted (and received financial aid). Some colleges will give very little aid, and others will give more.
Run the NPCs on your colleges of interest, and see if they fall within your parents budget.
This is an international student, and the NPCs are not likely to be accurate, even if OP subtracts out federal loans/pell dollars, accounts for currency exchange rates, etc.
OP will also need to include in their COA travel expenses and mandatory US health insurance—these two things alone can total $10K/year.
OP should research international fin aid for each college on their websites, and speak with an international fin aid rep from each school once their list is more defined.
True, but its a start
Also I would look into some small liberal arts schools or directional schools. They often want to increase diversity and also have major merit aid. Some to be aware of:
Wooster college
Adrian
Albion
Baldwin Wallace
Alma
University of Toledo
Eastern Michigan University
Northern Arizona University
Yes you can, believe in yourself! At the end of the day keep ya head up
Are you assuming that if you graduate in the US that you’ll be able to move here permanently to work? Don’t spend your family’s money with the assumption that you’ll be able to stay in the US. The chances of that are pretty remote.
