Based solely on numbers, do I fit Princeton's profile?

2190 SAT:
700 Reading
770 Math
720 Writing

SAT II's:
800 Math II
800 Physics

UW GPA: 3.9
W GPA: 4.2

I have amazing letters of rec, and have been told by about six teachers/other adults that my essay is stellar. Any ideas? I know that it is hard to judge just by numbers, and that Princeton is really a reach for everyone, but do I have a shot? It's my top choice, and I want to apply EA. Thanks!

What are your extracurriculars? Are you a URM? How many APs have you taken?
The SAT is a bit low, and the GPA is certainly low, unless of course your school has an unconventional scale.

To the OP - your SAT II’s are top notch…it looks from the limited information above as though you are strong in the maths/sciences. I am pretty sure other applicants have been admitted with similar stats on the SAT I’s, although admittedly they could be a bit higher. However if your focus is on STEM fields, you’ll probably be okay.

Your other info (as promotional mentioned above) will be important since no one is admitted based solely on numbers (evidenced by the 2400’s who are turned away every year). Essays will be really important too. If Princeton is your #1 choice, I think you should go for it! It’s a reach for everyone but if you can keep that in mind, it’s a great place to go. Good luck!

Just a question @promotional - I’m not sure I understand how an UW 3.9 (assuming out of a possible 4.0) is low. Could you clarify?

APs:
Physics B: 5
US history: 4
Chem: 5
Stat: 5
Spanish: 5
Calc BC: 5

i was talking about the weighted gpa

Okay that helps me understand the comment. The challenge with looking at either type of GPA without a context is that it doesn’t necessarily paint a clear picture of the applicant’s actual strengths and accomplishments. Some schools grade on an easier scale than others - a 3.85 UW GPA at one school can be a far greater accomplishment than a 4.0 UW GPA at another. Some students take an easier course load to try to boost their GPA’s so course load difficulty is another very important consideration in the admission process.
