<p>I know my grades and scores are not nearly as impressive as many students applying to Stanford, but from reading about the university it seems they look beyond academic achievement and rather at the individual as a whole. I really am a person who likes getting involved in eveything and trying new experiences. I am really passionate about travel and culture, which is something I will reflect in my essay.</p>

<p>Stanford must admit a very large percentage of Californians; it also loves URMs and of course needs many nationally-ranked athletes for all of its teams. That doesn’t leave many slots for unhooked students.</p>

<p>Are you recruitable for soccer? If not, I would say your chances are at the current rate of 8%.</p>

<p>Stanford is a reach for everyone. You are certainly an applicant that will get a fair look, but it is an uphill battle.</p>

<p>Cheng- Yes, I know Stanford is private. It also has a strict charter from its inception (& Leland Stanford) which specifies that a certain percentage- around 40% of its students must be California residents.</p>

<p>Stanford is private so you would think it wouldn’t give in-state preference. But they do have the highest percentages of CA students. Higher yield among CA students, perhaps more legacy students too. Also kids from the well known high schools around Stanford have the advantage that prep schools in north east have for Harvard.</p>

<p>Ah, thanks for clarifying, fauve. Good point. Yes, there are so many kids in bay area that do seem to get into Stanford. Of course they are all good, but maybe things been same, they may get a slight edge :)</p>

<p>no you can’t, you probably should have taken a bio subject test though. schools dont like seeing math 1 subject test, you should have taken math 2.</p>
