What do you think my chances are? for Stanford, or any Ivy League really.

The app shows a lot of unique passions and talents that Stanford values. For example, the original poster said she was a “national level competition champion” in figure skating. In a recent Stanford newsletter, they highlighted the fact that one of the accepted transfer students was a figure skater, implying it is something they highly value, even though they don’t have a team (they do have a club). Stanford also makes a big deal about the number of students and alumni they bring to the Olympics and number of medals won. If there is a decent shot of making the Olympic team, it would obviously have an influence. How does this degree of subjectivity become a 5-10% chance? I don’t know what % chance she has of being admitted, but it’s certainly high enough to take the time and effort to apply.

I am sure you would have a chance higher than the average 6.6%. Try to work on your essay early. Also, it would be better if you can enrich your EC more with community services.

How is that you finished IB but looking into applying now?

What country are you from?

I remember at one time one of the US national team members in figureskating was attending Stanford. Stanford likes to have athletes who compete at the national level.

@billscho. You seem to be undervaluing how hard it is to get into Stanford today. They have the lowest acceptance rate at 5.69%. Every Tom, Dick, and Harry wants to attend Stanford. However, I agree with texaspg that Stanford loves athletes that compete at the national or international level. To the OP, don’t worry about padding your application with superfluous “community service hours” you have accomplished a lot…just work on your essays and make your genuine voice and identity shine through in your application. Good luck.

I agree with gravitas2, particularly on the community service issue. Don’t try to be someone you are not. You already have exceptional EC’s. If admissions people see your passion and enthusiasm through your essays, you are alright. No guarantees of course, but with all your credentials, all you can do is be yourself and see what happens.

Thanks @Data10 Stanford is definitely still a reach school for me, but I will definitely try applying.

@billcsho I have some community service hours, from when I teach group lessons at a local skating rink, but only about 150 hours.

@texaspg I am from the US, but I am enrolled in a special program at our school that allows us to do the IB program in 10th and 11th grade combined with the AP program, so I will (hopefully) have my IB diploma already by the time I apply.

@gravitas2 @onemoreparent thank you for taking the time to read and reply to my message!
