So I recently applied to Stanford and I was wondering what chances I have at getting in. I have a 4.0 GPA with 9 AP classes and play 2 sports. I am a state level swimmer, seated top 3 this year in my events. I also do a lot of clubs and have leadership roles within them. But I don't have great SAT scores. I got a 1880, 730 in math, 610 in reading, and 540 in writing. What are the chances of getting into Stanford?

Probably wanna get that SAT score up.

I don’t think he really has an opportunity to be getting his SAT score up half a month after the deadline…

Anyway, I wish I could say you had a decent chance grimmy. Your academics and ECs are pretty good, of course. But that 1880 is going to hurt you; Stanford draws from a selective enough applicant pool that, unless your essays are REALLY good, they can pick someone just like you who has an SAT score 300 points higher.

Do remember that getting into a top 5 school is not a requirement for future success though.

It’s a tough sell with a 540W and a 610 CR.

Hello,
Stanford is really competitive and here in Mexico is one of the best schools to go to. Your SATs are low for what they ask for but the school says that it is not the most important factor of the application process. Well I give you a 6.2 out of 10. Good luck!

Chance me please:

There was someone on these threads that was a recruited swimmer and got in with a 1700.

I suggest trying to get recruited, good luck! It’s definitely possible!

You’re just one of those typical overachievers, you study a lot and have decent EC’s but your not actually intelligent.

^wow, that’s not rude at all.

If you were recruited, you have a good chance. If not… i’m really sorry. You will definitely get into a great school though with those great accomplishments, and don’t listen to ThaMan. For one thing, you have good SAT scores, but the vast majority of people can’t get scores that high. They’re also not a 100% measure of intelligence. And I know for a fact that it’s better to be a hard worker w/ good grades than have high SATs and be an epic fail in high school… I know more than three horror stories with the latter

^ThaMan

So, you’re saying that standardized test scores (e.g. SATs) are the only representations of intelligence. Basically, if someone doesn’t have a high SAT score, they aren’t intelligent. You’ll have to explain to me what your definition of intelligence is then…somehow I don’t believe you know what it means to truly be “intelligent”. I’ll tell you know…a hardworking individual will eventually beat out a natural genius and that’s how things are.

^OP

I think that outside of your low SAT scores, you’d have a decent chance. I hope that your essays were spectacular or else I’m sorry to say that your chances aren’t the greatest. The admissions process is holistic, but your numbers have to be there too. Good luck to you though!

No. Sorry bro, you pretty much have to be a ethnic minority with excellent qualifications, a legacy with excellent qualifications, or the best in the world at something to get into Stanford.

it’s a reach. just like for everyone else. but looking at the number of people with perfect SAT scores who don’t get in shows how much it is a toss up.

iltili92 put it nicely. i had a breakdown over my SAT scores (1830) last week, because Stanford has been my dream school since forever. and yes, I am intelligent. some people are just bad test takers. i got deferred SCEA instead of being flat-out rejected. SAT scores aren’t everything.

the bottom line is don’t get your hopes up but in the back of your mind know its not impossible. they are going to look at your whole application. and from the information you gave it seems pretty solid.

thanks you guys. well i worked really hard on my essays, so hopefully that will help. It’s a long shot, but who knows.

Everything except the SATs is absolutely steller. I suggest if possible take it again. Even without it though you probably have a pretty good chance. A lot of students who apply to this calliber of school (in the subject of math) are involved in math/science ECs.

Overall I’d give you about a 65-75% chance of getting in. Obviously higher if you get that SAT up.

75% chance of getting in Stanford with an 1880? Do you even know what school OP is talking about Doberhound?

@OP: Besides your SAT score everything looks pretty competitive, but given the competitiveness of Stanford’s applicant pool, your chances are pretty slim with an 1880.
