Can I get into SUNY New Paltz with a 2.8 GPA?

I applied rolling Nov 15, still haven’t heard back. I’m white, female and from the lower Hudson valley, NY. I have 990 SAT scores and a 2.8 GPA. I am captain of the schools color guard, PR of the gay straight alliance, president of the Gaelic Society, and have participated in school musicals and plays all four years, in addition to other music programs throughout the years. I think my essay was strong and I submitted two teacher recommendations that, I hope suit me well.

I know it’s a reach but is it TOO much of a reach?
What are my chances?

My D did not get in for the class of 2013 with a similar GPA and 1260 (old) SAT. Her EC’s were not as strong as yours but my understanding is that New Paltz goes by the numbers.

Have you applied to other SUNY’s? What are you interested in studying?

6.5% of students accepted had between 2.5-2.9 GPA last year and about 15% had your SAT score. Not completely and utterly impossible, but obviously a stretch. Hang tight, you’ll find out soon enough.

With that lackluster GPA and very low SAT NewPaltz will most likely reject you, big schools like them pay much more attention to the numbers and not EC’s, get your bad grades up
