Can I get into the engineering program?

I'm pretty sure I don't have the numbers, but I thought I'd get an answer from more experienced people. So here it is. I live in ILLINOIS by the way (if that makes a difference).

Weighted GPA: 3.86 Unweighted: 3.85 ACT:26 Class Rank: 103 (Top 17%)
1 year in tennis, 1 year in soccer, 1 year of FBLA, 300 Volunteer Hours, English student of the month.

Do I even have a shot?

You might have a shot if you got your ACT up into the 30’s (I mention that because it is the easiest thing to change out of all of your stats) but otherwise, it is a pretty big stretch. Still, you might as well apply. The worst they can do is say no, and who knows, maybe they will say yes.

There’s almost no chance for engineering. I suggest applying to LAS and transferring.

Go here: [U</a> of I Admissions: Freshman Admission Requirements](Page Not Found, Illinois Undergraduate Admissions)

The page provides the middle 50% range for those admitted to the various colleges at UIUC last year. As you will see, for engineering it was 30 to 33 ACT and top 8% to top 2% class rank. Obviously 25% of those admitted were below that range but if below by much you should consider your chances to be very low.

But don’t give up hope OP. You should check out the Parkland Pathways program, and consider the transfer route, if your freshman application doesn’t produce the desired results.

Hey yeahman68-

I think your stats are pretty good. I don’t really believe in ACT scores. I honestly do not think they are a measure of intelligence or should be the number one deciding factor of a college acceptance. I got accepted to the engineering program with your exact ACT score- a 26. I worked hard on my essays and got them proofread at least three times each. Have a unique story to tell that showcases your talent and personality. Also- make sure to have taken lots of math and science courses. I took 6 years of math and AP Physics. I got As in all these courses. Test scores are not my strength, so I believe my grades helped me get in to engineering.

Good luck with your college process. Don’t give up hope!

I think if your ACT was higher you’d have a better shot at engineering. your in U of I of course… 28+ if URM and 30+ if not. also, why is ur weighted and unweighted GPA so close? Have you been taking all Honors and APs in the maths and sciences? that is crucial… my friend got in U of I engineering. He took Geometry, Trig/Pre Calc, AP Calc AB, and AP Calc BC also Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and AP Physics. a 4s on all the AP tests. as well as 29 on ACT and 3.8 GPA. how is ur course load is the question.

You have an extremely good shot, I wouldn’t worry too much about the ACT score. As long as you’re grounded well in mathematics and science, you should be fine!

You have a very tough chance at admission. I would also suggest you look into transfer opportunities.
