Hi, I would like to know more about the honors program at NC State. I wanted to know if it was worth joining if I get accepted. What's the difference between the scholars program and honors program? If I go to NCSU, I want to attend the honors or scholars program.
Also, could I even get in? I'm an in-state, female, I have a 1430 2-part SAT (800 M, 630V), a 4.625 W GPA and am in the top 3% of my class...
I guess I just want to know what the honors program can provide for me and is it worth it? Thanks.

Your stats will likely be good enough to get you in NCSU.

Here’s some information from the NCSU Undergraduate Catalog about both programs: http://catalog.ncsu.edu/undergraduate/admission/honorsandscholarsprograms/

and a link to the University Honors Program website: http://honors.dasa.ncsu.edu/

My daughter has really enjoyed living on the Honors Quad. The rooms are nicer than most on campus. The bathrooms are shared in the hallway, but she doesn’t mind that. The dorms are quiet, the students are serious about their studies, but they plan a lot of fun activities too. There is a small dining hall right next to the Honors Quad and some of the Honors Seminars are located on the Quad, which is very convenient. The Honors seminar classes are small and there is an interesting variety from which to choose.

Good luck with your application and decision.

My son enjoys his honors class a lot. Good teacher good subject. He also really likes the honors dorm. Great kids. Fun. Like-minded. Good location. Near a dining hall. Even though half of his classes will be on the Centennial campus - he plans to stay another year in honors. We were told these rooms are larger than others. Not sure if that’s true. Yes, it is a hall bathroom. But each room has a sink in it … and a fridge/ and microwave. Scholars was more about events and attending things … I think both are probably great programs and create a smaller “community” for the student on a large campus.

My son told me there is also the Quad Activities Council which plans events. Recently, there was holiday semi-formal dance, they brought dogs into visit students during finals week, lego dance, Super Smash brothers video game tournament, Quad chalking events, etc. etc. He highly recommends honors over scholars. If nothing else - he says a better dorm and Clark is the best dining hall (which is next to honors.) :)

My son received an invitation today via email to apply to the Honors College. Essay is due Jan 25th.
I am hoping someone can answer this question. Since College of Design admission decisions are not made until March, how does it impact applying for honors and honors housing? Can someone be a design major and also in honors? My D would like to live in the honors village & meets the requirements. Any advice would be appreciated.
You will need to call NC State and ask these questions. I would think you go ahead and apply for honors and the honors village …
Hey hopefully someone is active on this,
I was designated an alternate for the Honors College with a 4.95 W GPA, 35 ACT, captain of multiple clubs/teams, and significant volunteering work and legacy, and I’m understandably (I think) upset. I really hoped to get in as I enjoy the more scholarly atmosphere and I was planning on rooming with a high school friend in the Honors Village. I emailed the Honors college with a couple questions, but have thus far received no answer, and I was hoping someone here could help. 1. What are the odds of being accepted as an alternate. 2. If I accept my invitation to the Scholars Program, will I be able to rescind it if I later get accepted into the Honors program? And lastly, if I get accepted into the Honors program (I should find out mid-May), will I still be able to live in the Honors Village my freshman year? Thanks for the help.
@MaterMia
Figured I’d tag you in this because you seem knowledgeable about the topic.
don’t feel too bad. my kid had higher GPA, was Park scholar semifinalist (also MVP and team captain) and kids lower in class rank (and test scores) were offered from same school. I guess the essay questions (both of which seemed very esoteric with no obvious answer) were all that was considered in the process. (since they already ran a minimum GPA /Test score cutoff)
@JacksonP12 - there are a couple of non-Honors students living with an Honors roommate (by request) in the Quad. If it is not too late maybe he can request you as a roommate? If there are enough spaces, you may still have a chance being in the Quad while you wait to find out about the alternate spot. It really just depends on how many rooms are filled by Honors students first.
@JacksonP12 - what were the results from housing?
