I was wondering if some of you can give me some advice; I want to get into my dream college, UCLA. It would mean a lot for some people to take a look at my stats!
Gender: F
Race: Asian
School: Public, ~>1,000 students
SAT: 1330, planning to take it again and aiming for around 1450
Freshman: GPA- (S1) 3.8 (S2) 4.0
Sophomore: (S1) 3.8 (S2) 3.8
Junior: (S1) 4.2 (S2) 4.2
Accumulated
GPA (9-12) weighted: 3.931 unweighted: 3.793
GPA (10-12) weighted: 3.947 unweighted: 3.737
Extracurriculars: I’m very active in theater, was a lead in the musical my junior year, and am going to attend a theater camp. I am also active in singing; I take voice lessons every week and have competed in a vocal competition as well as participate in choir and honor choir. Other than that, I have been the Treasurer, VP, and now President of my school’s environmental club.
Your weighted gpa alone almost disqualifies you.
Unless you apply as a Arts or TFT major, then you might have a shot.
What are your other schools?
Based on your posted Stats, UCLA is a Reach school.
Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19 (capped weighted) and not major specific:
UCLA: 11.6%
SAT is also on the low side to be competitive:
25th - 75th percentiles for SAT:
UCLA: 1280-1500
What is your intended major?
I got into UCLA w/ about the same SAT score as you but my gpa was 4.55 weighted and 4.0 unweighted. You still might have a good chance of getting in depending on your personal insights.
@alicantekid i do intend to apply into the arts program. I want to double major in voice and I’m not sure of my other major, perhaps global studies or environmental science; something that can help the world in some sort of way
@TomSrOfBoston basically all of the UC’s, USC, maybe a couple Cal State’s, Chapman, LMU… mostly southern california schools
@Gumbymom I want to double major in voice for sure and environmental science/global studies, not sure yet
You can only declare one major at the time of application and if you want to major in voice, then your audition will weigh heavily in your admission decision so UCLA is possible.
@Gumbymom oh i see, thanks for your help!!
While GPA and test scores certainly matter, I don’t think they’re the only factor in admissions. I can’t say for certain what your chances are because UCLA is honestly a bit of a wild card. I know students with perfect 4.0+ GPAs and outstanding extracurriculars who’ve gotten rejected, but I also know students with lower stats who’ve gotten in. Sometimes the process seems kind of unfair, but in some ways it levels the playing field. My advice would be to work on your personal statements: these can either make it or break it when it comes to admissions. It also depends on which school you are applying to: for example, Letters and Sciences is significantly easier than Engineering. I wish you the best of luck! If you have any questions about applications, feel free to ask me! I may be new to UCLA but I’d love to lend a hand
wow, thank you so much for your help!
