Hello, I am a junior at a small school in Texas. I am not in the top 7% of my class, therefore, I am not eligible for automatic admission. However I am in the top 8% and have a GPA of 3.95. I am in all honors, dual credit, and AP classes. My rank is 16 out of 195 students. My PSAT score was 1160 (which I hope to raise on the SAT) and my ACT score, which I plan to retake was a 26. Do I stand a chance at getting into UT?
@becca88, I’m the parent of a junior and we live in Austin. The average ACT for freshman at UT with automatic admission is 28 and 29 for students without automatic admission. I would suggest an ACT retake to raise the score somewhat. Another 2 or 3 points would be great. Your ranking is extremely good. You only need to climb the ranking by 1% to reach the 7% threshold.
If your heart is set on UT Austin and you aren’t in the top 7%, consider their CAP program (https://admissions.utexas.edu/enroll/cap) The CAP program allows students to complete their freshman year at another UT campus, take certain classes, meet a certain GPA and then they are guaranteed automatic transfer to UT Austin for their sophomore year. Something to consider …
